Is this a fair leasing term?
I went in to check an '06 base coupe (don't really care for all the extra frills).
anyways...I asked about a lease...the best they could offer was the MSRP $27650 (plus tax, license, and BS - they didn't give they numbers for this part) at 48 months for $444.44 / month - with a residual of about $12,400.
I walked out...I wanted the monthly to be about $350. Is that asking too much? The way I see it...in four years, the car should still be worth at least $19k - I mean I'm seeing '03's w/ 30k still going for around $25K (and that's the cheap end!) so if the residual had been fairer, at say $16000 or so, the monthly should have been around what I was looking for...
am I being unreasonable? oh, I was trading my '97 Z3 in (blue book is 4800).
oh well, guess no Z for me yet...

if the best they could offer was msrp you were right to walk out. Nego the price of the car... THEN nego the financing. The fact you are leasing it shouldn't have anything to do with how much they are going to sell you the car for unless its some promo.
Check out edmunds.com to get the invoice price on the car you want and tell the stealership $500 over invoice or you walk.
Check out http://www.leasecompare.com/ to see what the residual values should be for whatever trim/options are and then you can also get an idea of how much the monthly should be.

I want to lease b/c I don't have the cash to buy it out right, and don't want to finance at ~$600 for the next 5 years either. I figure that if I lease at $350 for 48months, I can use the extra $300 I would save from a ~$600/month finance as play money, invest some, and just cash out the residual at the end of the lease...I'd probably loose about $2k or so compared to just paying $600 for 60months...but I'm okay with that
thanks hypeiv I'll have to check that site out.

its not worth leasing..
06 base.. you can get for less than 26 grand.. with 0 down, 6.5% financing for 6 years, thats about 500 a month and the car is yours..
or you can pull a couple of 0% credit cards together, 26 grand, 0 down, 0% financing, a lil over 400 a month for 5 years (intead of 6)
its a no brainer
good luck

What credit card will give you 0% for 5 years.... I guess you could keep flipping the balance every year on to other cards but you would have to get 2 or 3 new credit cards every year for 5 years.
Leasing is not as bad as people think... as long as you understand what you are getting yourself into. I wouldn't recommend using a lease as a way to drive a car you couldn't otherwise afford though.

DO NOT LEASE! EVER!
Leasing is bad, just google it for more references. I have seen many friends and family screwed over by leasing. Save your a$$ off for cash and put down a mighty down payment and finance.
