Default Registration fee

Did you guys have to pay a registration fee for your Z?

According to the dealer this fee is to register the car and the serial number, and they also put the serial number on all major components of the vehicle to prevent theft - sort of like window etching.

Did anyone else have to apy this? I thought this was standard on all cars... at least I thought with Acura.

Yes, you have to pay registration fees to the state/county (in your case, province I guess) where you want to register your car. Dealers charge it as a convenience to you since most people finance the entire OTD cost which of course includes title and registration. If they didn't, you would have to pay it anyway when you go to the DMV.

As for the etched serial number on each component, that is purely a matter of choice, unless Canada requires it on all new cars.

Don't fall for VIN etching. Its worthless. The VIN is stamped on major components.

Yes you have to pay for it and it was $198 for mine.

You will also see stickers in all the panels of the car on the inside with a registration number or something. They are also etched onto all the windows. Didn't really pay attention to look at the numbers.

Also, I asked my car insurance about a discount, but there was NONE.

No, you don't have to pay for it. It's one of the money making scams at dealerships. The VIN is stamped in a couple of known (and at least one unknown except to the cops/manufacturers) places on the car. Putting it on the windows and stuff is crap and if you really want it, buy a kit for about $5 and do it yourself.
