Z all the way.
If you concerned about fuel cost, it really depends on how you drive the car.
On highway cruising, Z is more fuel efficient. On city drive, SI will be more efficient.
As fun to drive, Z all the way...
I assumed SI is similar to RSX-S cuz they have the same engine. Finial drive may be a little different.

I traded in my 03 Type-S for 06 Z. I think the type-S and SI are very similar.

Pros for the RSX

Slick tranny (assuming you don't have any 2nd gear grind)
Great gas mileage
Cargo room and two more seats. When the rear seats fold down, it can take a lot of cargo.
Better fit and finish as well as better interior quality.
When Vtec kicks in...WHEEE!!!!

Pros for the Z

Completely different league in power and handling
To me it is a much better looking car

Bottom line if you are looking for a everyday practical car that is also fun to drive, go with the SI.

Than again here in S. CA they are marking up the SI like crazy and you can almost get a base Z for the price of marked up SI.

Yeah I heard people saying that the dealers are marking the SI's like crazy in Socal... But I've got a friend who works as a dealer for Honda so I might be able to get something off of him. Anyways, something interesting I found out is that the RX-8 costs $26,995 while the Z coupe costs $27,650, that's $655 difference. The interior os RX-8 is nice with Bose speaker system, agreed? So now another dilemma...

RSX - S > Civic Si

The civic Si just doesnt do it for me, the RSX is kinda like a step up from the civic, plus you can get it fairly cheap since its the last year they're making it.

My thoughts when buying my RSX last year over the Z were...

Had I bought the Z, I wouldnt have money for other things like mods, rims, etc. (now that I got the money and the lower insurance costs I'm just waiting for 07 !)
The RSX vs The Civic Si was a clear cut choice after I saw both and drove both. Dont get me wrong the civic and the RSX are very very similar but when you compare the interiors and the exteriors I found the RSX to be far superior. The driveability of both are similar a slight edge to the civic due to the LSD but that can also be installed on the RSX. Not to mention I found the RSX to be a bit peppier (probably due to the funky electronic throttleness in the civic).

All minor issues aside I bought an RSX-S over a Z thinking I wasnt ready (couldnt drive stick before the RSX) and thinking I needed a back seat. But after a little over a year I find myself bored with RSX and its backseat (Great car never had a problem even after suspension, cai, carputer) and am ready to goto the 350z.

Bottom line, if affordability and 2 seats arnt an issue get the Z, much fun to be had, less regret.

On top of that, every frickin time a Z drives by It haunts me, its like this big void that never got filled.....seriously I think I need help...

IMO. I'd rather step into an entry level 'higher-end' vehicle, then a decked out 'lower-end' one any day. Just as many have said here...At the end of the day, its still a Civic....

Wow, I never thought I'd see someone cross-shop these 2 cars. The Si is a very nice quality vehicle. The Si is also being offered as a sedan for 2007 which is a big plus for it if you only have one car. If you are in the market for a performance car, get the Z regardless of price. It is a much better platform for performance.

Btw...

Do any of u recommend just getting the base trim? I plan on changing the rims, springs, exhaust, and adding a bodykit. Also, if i get one with non-nav, can I install one at a dealer any time, or would u guys recommend me get an aftermarket nav? Also, im trying to figure out, do base trims come with leather seats and keyless entry?

The base trim is fine if you just care about performance. However, the base trim doesn't include a LSD. Just get an aftermarket nav, they are just as nice. The base trim does not have leather seats but does have keyless entry.

Seriously, insurance will be more for the SI, have you even checked that?

we actually own both cars, so I'm well equipped to give an honest opinion.

the Si is a fantastic car - very quick, very nimble in stock form, terrific lsd. Some very well thought out mods and the car becomes seriously quick - quicker than most people would ever think. Very very very nice transmission, and the motor has quite a nice torque band do it...and it revs and revs.
It's quirk is the drive by wire, and while there is a flash out there for it,we've yet to bring ours in to have it done).

The Z has been my near daily driver since Fall 03 - its been the most reliable car I've owned to date (Civic notwithstanding as we've only had it since March). Very well balanced car stock, nice, torquey motor and a classic look to it.

Yes the cars are very different - like someone said above, it depends what you value. The price difference is quite substantial, as are the insurance costs (at least here in NY). I dont' care what anyone says about gas mileage, the Civic owns the Z, even when you ring the Civic out.

I can't believe this thread is still here and how long you guys kept it alive. He is either 13 or messing with you guys. "How much is a tank of gas ???" Really? "The RX8 is $655 less???" Really? "It costs $5 more to fill the Z than a E320???" Really? "Do coupes come with leather or do only the enthusiast, track, and GT???" Really? If you had the money to comfortably afford either, would you be having this debate? I should have let this die as well but you guys keep bringing it back.
