Where can i find salvage title Z's at a reasonable price./

i have 25,000 to spend on car.
i was thinking getting a 6-7,000 z and putting the rest into parts.

just keeping my options open.

 

Don't listen to dumbasses that obviously don't know anything about cars. If you get a good shop to do the work you won't be able to tell a difference. My Z has a salvaged title and so does my dad's. My mom's '05 Maxima also has a salvaged title. We usually shop for them that way, since we don't plan on trading cars every other month. I don't remember ever having a problem. yea... there's nothing wrong with a Z that has a salvage title. i got my 2005 Z with 12,000 miles which has a salvage title for 14,900, it had front damage( front bumper, left fender head light, ect). if you want a project car then get one with a salvage title, it'll save you alot of money.

 

My dad's is an '05 Enthusiast in DB. He got it with 2k miles for $11,500. He ended up having, I think, around $17k in it.

 

Also I got mine for $6500 with 50k miles. I'm going to have less than $10k in it including my 19" wheels and new tires.

but ya salvage is looking like the way to go for me.
im seeing some for less then 4,000 but it looks like it needs a lot of body work as well as a new engine.

 

Yeah, 30k is cheap when you think about it however it's just something I can afford full force at the momment.
The way things stand I'm looking closer to the 10,000 or less however finding a GOOD Z for such is uuh...difficult.
Also I'm a bit questionable about looking at salvaged cars myself since I don't want to pay tons into fixing an old one up when I could take that money and buy a new one.

 

Look around New Orleans as there were plenty of cars left behind at the dealerships when the huricane rolled though there last year. You could potentially find a new car with a salvage title. No tragic weather this year so the '06 models would be hard to find. Good luck, I think you've got a good idea and if you've got the wrench turning abilities you'll come out a head knowing your vechical better than most do and you'll have life long skills that will always be good to have.

Back when I was a kid I picked up a 1973 Plymouth and busted my knuckles on it for a few years before enlisting in the Navy. The 'cudas back then were just cheap little quarter mile racers and were very simple and easy to work on.

 

only thing with the flood damaged z's is im afraid that rust and mold might be an issue especially interior and electrical.

 

Water vehicles are a curse and blessing. They're usually pretty easy to fix and you can get them cheap, but you don't know what you're getting into. You could get one just needing the window relays or you could get one needing all the dash electronics fixed. Also with these things won't go wrong all at the same time. My dad had a 4Runner and little things would go wrong every now and then, like a bad door relay after about three years. I personally like getting them were they are real bad, but not bad enough to need a clip. That way I can get them cheap and I'm a body man so I can do the work myself.

Edit: Also Paul350Z brought up a good point about the weather. My mom got her new car from the same place I got the Z. It was on a lot in FL when the hurricanes came through. It's got a water damaged title, but was never under water. The only thing wrong with it was a very small dent in the quarter and a few small scratches. What happened was most of the cars got flooded and when the insurance company came in they totalled everything, whether it needed it or not. Needless to say she got a practically new '05 Maxima fully loaded (only missing heated seats and navi) for less than $20k. Just look under the seats at the seat bolts. If the car has been under water those bolts WILL have rust on them.

and u said u were a body-man...do u actually own a body shop or have a lot of know how.
if u own a shop how much do u think a total front or rear end rebuild would be
(bumpers,fenders, etc. no engine work)

I used to work at a body shop. Now I do repair work, custom body work, suspension work, and fiberglass work in my spare time at my place. It really depends on what all would have to be done. I typically don't charge much because I don't have much overhead to charge for. I would probably charge around $1800. That's painting the hood, fenders, and bumper cover; and blending the doors. I would charge a little less for good used parts that I don't have to work, since I wouldn't have to go through as much prep work as a new part. A little more for used parts that I would have to work.
