Default Buying my first car: 06 350z :) yay

hey guys, i'm new to the forums and pretty much new to driving since i'm 16. I live with my mom and step dad in SoCal but i'm gonna go visit my dad in Arizona during winter vacation. He said i can get a 350z and i decided to grab one before 07 came along so i can get a brand new one for cheap, or atleast cheaper then invoice.

I'm not looking to mod it nor race it, just want a really nice car to drive around. and surprisingly the insurance for a Z is a little cheaper then a RSX!

so heres my question. What would be a good or fair price for a 06 Z base model w/ manuel trans. I'm looking to get a brand new one, i'm not really looking for a used one since im underage.. the insurance price would get a little higher.. or atleast thats what i was told.

Thanks
-David

I'm not sure on what a fair price is for a pretty new 06 so can't really help you except for future reference don't let people know you're 16... It usually gets pretty ugly.

Good luck with it, the Z is a very nice and fun car to drive, just don't watch to many vids of them because you will drive your self insane until the day comes were your actually sitting in one. You may want to consider a used Z though.

You're not gonna mod it? I actually laughed out loud at that one . . . . . . soon my friend . . you will join the dark side. Soon.

As far as pricing goes, an Enthusiast (the best trim!!!) will get you around 27k or so. But if I were you, I'd go for a 06 Track model so you get the Brembo brakes . No need for aftermarket brake upgrades later on should you decide to get FI!!!

no offense..just a thought came in mind..
hmm... is this a proud thing to say??
I found that people around 16-19 love to tell others their ages, and basically i think its a show off (trying to let other people know "look i drive this kinda car some people cant even afford it".) what you guys think?? ....
anyways congr. but i would say dont get Z as your first car since you are only 16...hate to see those kids burning out their tires at school parking lot with 2 guys holding it in the front video even if u dont want to ur friends will ask u to well high school u know.........so learn more till u get one so it will last ..... good luck...

Yeah this car would have been way too much for me at 16. Almost 20 now, not much better but I did buy it myself, personally from experience I would say you should get a cheaper car to abuse until you know how to properly treat a machine like the 350z.

BTW, Your parents must think you are the most responsible 16 year old ever, or they don't care if you kill yourself.

But yes base is about 27k OTD, since you are new to driving let alone RWD I would recommend touring or track for the driving aids. At least enthusiast for TCS.

just take it step by steps ... u wanna those upgrade feeling right?not downgrading right ... lets say if u get the z now ...u will be happy with it for how long ??3-4 years maybe ..and then what ..are u able to buy a new car yourself when u turn 19 ?? also high school and university life is always what party time... its bored to only have 2 seats unless u have another car....well..i want u to have a Z but i would say u will be happier with an STI or G35 during your school life ...... people will think u cool too...and they can actually be cool in there with you ... not just u and whoelse take the other seat.......haha

I never thought older people thought that? Me personally I really do not like to tell my age on here. If I do I can expect to get flamed or preached to about how I didn't earn it myself and every one else did. So I just keep my mouth shut when it comes to saying your age. I know the people here like to tell people they bought the car them selves because it gives them a chance to share their personal achievement, I would if I could I guess.

When I do tell my age I actually feel less about myself because I know I didn't earn my car. It was given to me, I would never say my age to show off. Just wanted to at my $0.02

I really dont think a 350z is TOO much of a machine for a 16 year old...if his parents can afford it..why not? May be im biased because where i live, all the highschoolers get bmws, hummers, mercedes...and everything else you can call a kid spoiled for as their first cars...I just think beign stupid with your car is different than having a very powerful car...I'm happy for him...gluck with the new car

I would love to get an Enth or even a Track at that.. but a BASE Z is already a lot for me and i don't want to push my dad to getting me something even more costly... even if its $2 more... for the modding... i was def. thinking about it but i can really only afford gas unless if i rob someone

i didn't mention my age for pride nor did i consider it.. and it def. wasn't for show off since i already knew from the start that i would get flamed. for the whole "slashing tires" i don't really see that happening at MY school and for party's i can always catch a ride with my friends "it saves me miles..."

i don't know about the responsible stuff but i def. don't do a lot of the stuff that my friends do... and plus my real dad that lives in Arizona is getting me the car and i don't really see him that much.. maybe once a year if he's not busy

Welcome.

I reply to about one My dad is buying me a 350Z thread each month. My answer is always the same:

If dad has the money, and dad is buying the car, I will be more that happy to answer any of dads questions.

In NJ you have to be 17 to drive. I bought one son an 06' G35 C and I couldn't be prouder of how responsible he is with his car (he's 18) I also bought my 16 y/o a Z and I have constant conversations about how responsible he needs to be (and I know he will be).

Having said that, until my 16 y/o is 17, its mine and I'm having a blast driving and modding this car. Kid, just be responsible, make your Dad proud of how you handle things and don't sweat the ribbing. You'll have plenty of time to work for the things you want, but for the time being, I hope you are concentrating on your education and achieving your goals. In the end, its just a car and yea, its a cool car, and you will probably be cool in school, but just keep your priorities in place, keep your eye on the ball and you'll be fine.
