How can I tell the trim of a Z?
I went and test drove a 2003 Z yesterday. I asked the salesman if he knew if it was a Touring or a GT or something and he had no idea and assumed it was the base.
Their ad said the car had Traction control, which is not avalbile on the base as far as I know. It also leather seats, but they could be after market.
So is there any easy way to tell what trim the car is and thus what options it has?

Welcome. Never ask a seller about the model. 90 percent don't know jack. Study this information before shopping: http://www.nissanhelp.com/.

17" or 18" wheels should determine whether it's Enthusiast with aftermarket leather or Touring. Navigational system is also standard on the touring. You said it has traction control which means it also has the SUH-WEET HID headlights.

No. Touring is touring and it was pretty much the same from 03-05. The biggest difference in the GT from 06 is the Brembos and the larger wheels that the touring did not come with.
The seats were two tone black and blue leather, but they were not power? At least I remember having to slide the seat forward manualy? There were buttons on the right side of the steering wheel, which I assumed was cruise control. And the add said it had traction control? Did the 2003 Touring have power leather seats? Or just leather seats? Or is sliding the seat forward and back not a powered function on the powered seats?

It's not a Touring. The leather was added. Plus Nissan never made a 2 tone leather and in those colors. The only "two tone" is the orange leather with black cloth center on the roadster seats. In 2003 only the Touring had leather and it was powered and heated. So no Touring no Brembos but with cruise control. The car can only be a Performance or Enthusiast. Now did the little button on the lower left near your knees say TCS or VDC? VDC was standard on Performance. Did it have the 18" wheels? Performance came standard with them and not the Enthusiast.

Navigation was not standard on the touring in 03. I don't no about now.
