Hey im 17 years old and turning 18 in july. my mom has crappy credit, im a part time student making 1800 a month. i want to lease an 04'+ model 350z. i was wondering on what the best route to do this would be. when my current car sells (93 civic black on black only 76k on the orignial engine ) i cant put a down payment of 5k. i live in austin texas and any advice will be awsome. i will be attending college this august.

76k on an original engine is nothing... why the surprised face? My advice to you is to not get a Z as a part time student who is 17 years old. My advice to you would be to keep your civic... on its original engine.

 

1800?! when you go to college, you won't earn that much. College is hard, especially if you do a major thats worth something outside of college (i.e., engineering, accounting, computer sciences, PA, dentistry, MD and no premed is NOT a major)

 

im just so sick of my dam civic. i want a new car real bad for college and i want somethhing nice. ive always been stuck on a Z. i duno what other car to get that is reasonable and nice. Lemme know

 

Keep your civic, save your money, and focus on building your credit if you want a Z that bad.

 

I would say get something cheaper for now to get you thru college. how do you make 1800 gross for only part-time a 17? have you tried trading in the civic for the Z yet? I doubt with your provided info will you be able to drive a Z off the lot. Is your mom gonna help you out if you're able to get one?

 

i making 1800 a month and the only thing i need to pay for is gas,insurance,and my car. everything else will be paid for.

 

2004? Dealers lease new 350Zs not vehicles that are 3 years old.

 

I would highly recommend NOT getting a z for college, I speak from experience. I got my z beginning my junior year and here is the list of things that happened to it:

Egged first week I brought it up
Shopping cart smashed into the rear smashing my bumper and tail light
Door dings (can happen anywhere, but more prone in college when kids don't give a Sh*t about their cars)
Mud pies thrown at it scratching the paint on the trunk and roof
A parallel parker made a nice indentation of there license plate in my front bumper

Some may read this and be like, you went to school in the ghetto. I can assure you I didn't I went to Miami University in Oxford Ohio, far from the ghetto, and lived farrrrr off campus, and this is where most of the damage occurred.

You also said that the only thing you have to pay for is car/insurance/gas.... You will CERTAINLY be finding other things to spend your money on in school... IE booze.....girls.....booze......booze.... and did I say booze? I did it but I also consulted from my apartment so I wasn't operating on a 1800/month budget. You could probably swing it, just be careful.

Also good luck getting financing making 1800 a month (before or after tax?), that young they will probably ask for a co-signer and you bet your mom wont be the ideal candidate.

****, I have a Z and if I was going back to college I'd be looking for a Civic with 76k miles on it to drive around campus. Save the Z as a graduation gift to yourself that way the time you would spend washing and caring for the Z can go to studying and partying.

If the money is burning a hole in your pocket, start socking away a car payment a month into an interest-bearing account, then when you graduate you can buy your new Z outright! Much better financial strategy than being in debt at 18.

I had a $700 beater car when attending Northeastern Univeristy on Boston. Best thing I could have EVER done. NU is near the Mission Hill ghetto, so there are always young, aspiring teenagers who need to vandalize cars: bust the windows out, steal $0.13 from cup holders, rip off side view mirrors, **** on it, you name it.

Did I care? Nah. It was just a beater car to get me to and from my internships while at school. The only thing I cared about was that it started up when I turned the key. Four wheels and a steering wheel is all that you need while in college. Trust me.

 

HAHA if the kids looking to spend all his money on a car now I'm not so sure he's bright enough to pick a useful major. Hey how about posting up a pic of your civic so we know if you riced it out or not. Don't get it twisted I love the 92-95 hatchback but I just hate it when kids rice them out.

 

Listen to all these guys. College is expensive and if your anything like the typical college student you probably want to do things besides going to work to pay for your car.

 

^^^ +1 best thing i did during college is i got a scion tc with everything brand new for 18,165.00 put some money down bc i had a civic too and it just kept f-ing up but hold out till after college to get a z, trust me it will be ten times better then bc with a job out of college you know you will be able to keep your car and not loose it. I mean you are making some good money now but most people make that much either a week or every other couple of days.Also with all the hott chicks there if you accidentally get one pregnant you will have to sell that z and get your old civic back lol. Im not trying to put you down about getting one but just weigh all the odds and expenses and if you still think everything will be cool then go for it!But you are going to need a co-signer, and good credit bc when buying used your apr is automatically going to be higher than getting one new

 

The price tag isnt the only consideration when buying a car. Expensive cars tend to have more expensive upkeep and maintainence cost as well. Please purchase dream car at a more age and income appropriate time. That or be a proud American and take on huge debt and ruin your life, and pass on the high credit card interest rates to the rest of us.
