I'd say anyting under $1000 profit is a fair deal for all involved...then it just comes down to how long you want to continue searching. That being said, if you don't know the invoice price, then you really don't know how good of a deal you are getting.

At the end of the day, the you should not care about a trade in, or about your cash downpayment, or anything else related to how you are coming up with your end of the deal - the price of the car is the price of the car...someone is buying it, and paying the dealership for it before you take it home. Whether its a cash, or a lease, or a loan, or you are putting down 99% of the price of the car up front makes no difference - the price of the car is still the price of the car. This is why you always negotiate the price of the car, exclusive of how you plan to pay for it. The payment method, be it loan, lease, etc. becomes, in and of itself, a seperate negotiation once you arrive at a reasonable price. Trade in, again, becomes a seperate negotiation.

I won't comment on the price of the car, but on your loan. Sounds like you're financing around $13,000 for 60 months, right? At 6% that should be right around $250 a month. You mentioned a $290 to $300 payment. What interest rate are you getting?

That sounds about right. As I mentioned earlier, my target is $29,700.

At this point in time, it is at about 7.9%, but that is their "worst case" scenario, since I have not sat down with the Finance Consultant as of yet...

They are expecting it to be around 7%...

My credit report came back clean as clean could be and my score was pretty much off the charts...

Woulda loved to have had it at $250, that was actually my goal going in...

I went in today and put down a $500 deposit, as they have to get the car from a town about 2 hours away...

I'm going to see it for the first time in person on Saturday... Can't wait

Use the week to find what rate a local bank or S & L will give you. You are in much better shape if you walk into dealer with your financing in place.

Yes, agree with that. Especially check a credit union, if you're a member. My CU right now is giving 5.5% for a new car, 5.75 for used, if you have excellent credit. You should be able to do better than the 7% you mentioned above.

Appreciate the suggestions guys...

I will definitely take a look into that, as I AM a member of a credit union...

Last time I checked their rates though, it was in the high 8's, so I was getting a better rate through the dealership...

But it doesn't hurt to check again..

Thanks!!!

So the dealer called today and said they couldn't get the car from the dealer they were planning on...

They are "hustling" to find me another car, but haven't had any luck yet...

I'm not very happy with this, as I thought I was going to have my car by Saturday and I'm not a very patient person. I want to enjoy my Z for as much of the summer as possible...

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

My thought is to tell him to keep looking, but take the quote they gave me to other Nissan dealers in the area and say, if you can beat this, you got yourself a deal...

What do you guys think, what would you guys do?

Well if someone had the car you want on their lot local I might take the quote over there but otherwise I would let the guy that has spent some time with you try to get you one.

I come from a sales oriented family so I like to give the business to the guy that spends some time with me provided he gave me decent service and didnt try the "I wont tell you how much the car is but heres what your payment will be BS"

So the dealer called me tonight and stated that they found the car...

It was actually in some sort of "dealer warehouse" where they stock the cars before they are actually sent off to dealerships to be sold...

So, the car has no miles on it...

Should have it by Monday or Tuesday at the latest...

Man, all this stress and work, this car better be worth it, haha
