Default Tag Title and Tax on a 350Z are some states different?

Here in Oklahoma the Tag title and Tax would be around $1400. Is it cheaper in other states? Any states not require Tax? I'm just trying to save myself some money. Can you pay taxes on a car in another state and drive it back to your original state and everything be ok?

I know nothing about this stuff.

First off your question is completely relevant to the final purchase price of the car and nothing else. Of course different state have different tax rates. Not only do you pay that, but each county has an additional tax to ride on top of that. As far as tagging goes, transferring the old plate in GA is free, getting a new plate is around $50. If you want an accurate number, you might want to research some state and county tax rates online and do the math for yourself.

When I originally bought my car in SC, they said state tax wasn't charged for military. There are a bunch of states like this. When I went to register at the local dmv in GA, they told me that was a crock and i had to fish out 1.2k before I could get my tags. 3 days and smoke coming out my ears later, I could drive the Z legally.

Oregon as far as I know doesn't charge state tax for anyone.

Ultimately you will pay the same because you will have it registered wherever you live and where you live determines the tax, tags, title, and license fees.

I bought my car in Miami, but still paid NY taxes and fees because thats where it was registered.

What the hell does OTD mean? I've been sitting here trying to figure it out for 10 min.

I haven't chosen a dealership yet, but I'm thinking either Hudiburg off of 240 and Santa Fe or the new Nissan Dealership in Norman

The whole Tag title tax thing bothers me because I've saved up around 2-3K for a downpayment and $1500 of that is going to go to effing taxes.

Damn the man

In canada we pay more than $6000 USD for Z tax.

Also If you buy elsewhere you might not have the dealership warranty..

Why? So the dealership can confuse you about how much you are actually paying them for the car?

Tax, tags, and title fees are determined by governmental agencies, and are of course non-negotiable and will not vary from dealer to dealer. I only negotiate the price of the vehicle!

There is no such thing as a "dealership warranty" on new vehicles. A new Z comes with a Nissan warranty, that will be honored at any Nissan dealership.

+1. Tax ands title are different in different states.
Some states do no have a retail sales tax.
Can you buy a vehicle in a state which does not have a sales tax? Yes. However, when you register the vehicle, you will pay sales tax in that state.

OTD=Out The Door

Someone using OTD as an amount paid for a vehicle is providing pretty much worthless information. As you can see, the additional cost from government fees and taxes vary so much. Also, some folks state an OTD which takes into account trade-ins which really makes the figure worthless when trying to use it for comparison purposes.

Back to the original subject...some states also have annual taxes on vehicles which are based on the "value" of the vehicle. These taxes can be fairly high for the 1st few years of ownership...

Sales taxes are bad, especially if purchasing cars "fairly often".

Do you pay an annual property tax on your vehicle? If so, how much is it?

I am estimating 3k in my budget for TTL on mine in TN. On the plus side we don't have an income tax here.
