buying a base model (no VLSD)

Having the LSD helps to recover from a poor decision but if you try hard enough, no LSD will save you from the death plunge.
Just to throw this out there....after about 50K miles, the fluid in the stock VLSD (and just about all other VLSDs) looses its properties to a point where the LSD essentially becomes an open diff over time. All you LSD guys that have been driving for some time, you may be close to or already at open diff stage...you just haven't noticed

i would agree in most cases but i was not driving carelessly just took the turn slightly too fast not trying to hot rod at all. I was only going 30 mph when it happened so in that case yes it definitely would have helped the situation if not have prevented it.
In any case your right having an LSD is not going to make you a safe driver it just may get you out of a few minor misjudgments but it definitely will not give you free reign to fling the car around at will.
Have a base model myself, and with the stock 17's (235 rear) I noticed it love to kick out on a road course I raced on. Now I have 275's on the rear, and the sliding and kicking out was really cut down. Still later on, I'll look into a LSD.

I won the CCR region season title in Tire class in '07, finished 2nd pax overall at the finale(125+ drivers).......which was my first Pro Class experience with the V710's. Base model....Tom Deady was there in the RX8...but he wasn't 1st pax
neither was former National Champ Rob Faulkner in his AS Porsche

El sucko. You have to be *really* careful when giving gas around a corner. Quaife LSD soon to come though.
