Default Nissan dealership 'TitleGuard' - as reliable as Carfax?

Just bought an 05 touring from Nissan dealership. Over the phone I confirmed with them they have a carfax on hand that I can see when I get there. They said yes and that it had 1 owner, was not salvage, and not registered for commercial use (a rental).

When I arrived they gave me something called TitleGuard - Eagle Protection Vehicle Title Insurance Policy Vehicle History Summary. They claimed it was just as good so I made the purchase.

Should I be concerned this isn't as thorough as a carfax? Worried about a big suprise when I trade my car in down the road. JN1AZ34E75M650805 can anyone check?

If your really worried, why don't YOU just run a CarFax? If you can afford a car, surely you can afford the cost a CarFax report.

carfax is not that reliable anyways. Car could have been in tons of accidents, but if the police didnt make a report, then it would not show up on carfax.

until all body shops report to carfax it is sort of useless for accidents.

Its great for showing how many owners, registration changes and stuff like that though.

Bill - I've been reading these boards for half a year anticipating a purchase. That being said, I trust the response I'd get here much more than the salesman's answer. The big picture? A few minutes here has reassured me not to waste $25 for a needless carfax.

Davidv - Thanks! The car is as fun as everyone's described, glad I made the right choice.
