At one time I had a running deal set up with a dealer. The first car I bought from him took nearly 8 hours to come to a deal on. The next time I called (he remembered me) I said.. "Look, I don't want to haggle, but I'm not going to let you make a killing either. Why don't I just pay you 500 over your invoice and save all the time?" He thought about it for a few moments and bit on it (he was the general manager).
I've pretty much dealt that way on every car I've purchased since then. To me, it cuts through all the "crap".. usually gets you to at least the sales manager quickly (where the decision is getting made anyway) and quickens the whole process.
From their perspective.. it IS fair. They save time, and make a quick profit. It works for all involved as I see it.

It sounds like you already have, but do the reasearch. Understand what the real cost of the options, etc. are so you will be armed with the information. Understand what you're taxes are going to be at msrp, as well as invoice.. so you have both the upper and lower limit.
Then when they hit you will all the extras, make them itemize it and explain it to you. Most of them will try to move fast on this stuff. I remember a dealer trying to charge me $100 for door edge guards....I could've got the same stuff for $20 if I really wanted it.
If you're happy with the overall deal, but question some of the items they've listed... walk away from it and think it over. As someone else mentioned, they WILL call you. For that matter get a copy of it and come in here with it.. I'm sure someone here will be happy to answer your questions.

1) Know exactly what model, color, options you want.
2) Know dealer invoice for car plus options; go to MSN Auto or Consumer Reports.
3) Arrange your financing with local bank/Credit Union BEFORE you go to the dealer. Tell dealer you have your financing, your there solely to talk price. They are going to argue like hell with you on this;ignor them.
4) go to three or more dealers to compare prices.

Call every dealer within 50 miles, get the lowest price, then call the dealer you'd rather deal with (good service dept, etc), and say "match this price". Also some dealers may not have the exact options you want in stock, others may.

OP- If you are a serious/qualified buyer, and want to pass along your contact information, I will try and get you a discount so everyone gets a fair deal. I spend little time at infiniti and have no idea what these are selling for right now so no promises. I can at least set you up with good people that I send my personal friends with infiniti needs to see.
The easiest way of buying a car is just to go to your credit union or bank. See what you qualify for (amount and percentage). That way you KNOW what your going to pay. Then go to the dealer, make them an offer, if they take it then great, if not, then just leave. Plus if you do it through a CU for your job they can just take it out of your paycheck directly and give you a great %. Its very easy and very fast.

I know what I want to buy, I just don't know much about the negotiations or what a good price is. I'm going to buy a 2008 G37 sport with the 6 speed.
I read the tips and leasing guides, but I feel like I'm missing something. Any extra words of advice to keep from getting screwed over?

There are current promotions running for both buy and lease programs. If you are buying, there are special financing anywhere from 2.9% for 24 and 36 month financing as well as 3.9% for 48 and 60 month financing. Use a auto finance calculator online to see the differences in payments and total amount paid in interest to see what you want to do.
There is also $1000 and $500 cash to customer specials. $1000 is for current infiniti owners and $500 is for non-infiniti owners. So you will at least get an additional $500 off.
I am very certain you can get this car for invoice after factoring the $500 customer cash. Basically, you should ask for invoice on this car, which they are making $500 over invoice at least.
Personally, if it were me, I'd be asking for $300 under invoice, but that's just me. Whenever I buy cars, I never NEED it, so I am always willing to walk away if my price is not met. I would also not go into ANY dealerships. Rather, just go to edmunds.com. Spec out your car and email the price requests to a bunch of dealerships and deal with them on email ONLY. They will try to get you in, and that's when they have you, but do your best to get quotes on email only and not in person. If you need anymore help then PM me. I won't be checking this thread anymore. Good luck.
PS: You may want to consider some other cars. I've never been a fan of G35. You have ALOT of great options at the 40k budget price that are much nicer in my opinion. Like, the new C-Class Mercedes, the BMW 3series coupe, etc. You can also get an IS250 for 29k with the premium package, $7k off msrp.

I noticed that no one mentioned you should wait. Frankly,
the G37 is priced well enough to attract buyers who cannot
afford the car. Consider waiting for a 5-10k mile example to
show in the color/package you desire, and then purchase.
Check infiniti service records and carfax to ensure
you are not getting a LEMON.
You stand to save upwards of $8k++ off of the lowest possible
number you might pay for a "brand new" G37. Develop a speaking
relationship with local sales managers, and they will call you
when one turns up.
The money you save can be spent on the really important things
like a top secret body kit, suspension and some Meisters.
The car will be brand new for all intensive purposes.
Good Luck. Great Car. Lgr

The best advice given is 3. When you are preapproved, you then have all the leverage. If they dont accept your offer, walk out.
