Asking Price is $20k

I did some research & this sounds a bit high for a car that was produced in 2004....... which it's almost 2009 making the car 5 years old.

Perhaps I should try to get the 17-18 region?

It only has 7000 miles though.. I would look very closely at the carfax report and find out they didn't turn the odo back. Also, test drive/sit in the car first...YOu can tell a car with 7000 miles just by sitting in it...if everything is good, IMO, I say ask 17.5K and you'll probably walk out with 18.5-19K... if it's base model, don't go more than 18.5K

We're one month into 2008, so I wouldn't say the car is 5 years old. Even if Nissan produced the car January 2004, and today is February 1st 2008, that's still only a 4 years old car. The Z you looked at was probably produced in the back half of 2004, so it's 3-4 years old at best.

The low mileage on Z's aren't uncommon. I definitely second taking a close inspection of the car, and even having a mechanic come with you to buy the vehicle. The condition of a 7,000 miles on the engine, transmission, and body can easily be discerned from one that has 10x the mileage.

which package is it (enthusiast, touring, etc)

Check kelly blue book...for these cars, they don't have much depreciation, so asking price is going to be close to KBB, try to talk them down as much as you can, but cars like this don't appreciate as much...kind of like supras, 10-15 years old...a lot still go for 30k+

I plan on going for the 17.5 - 18.5 figure. No more.

It is. I had it done, unintentionally though.

Quick story:

The dashboard in my my 01 Maxima had a crack in the circuit board which cause the entire left side to not light up. So the cluster came out, and under my extended warranty, I had a new one ordered from Nissan. They asked the mileage of the car. I gave them a number that was 200 miles higher than what I currently had, because I knew by the time it arrived, I'd have driven at least 200 miles over that span of 10 days. So I was legit about it. Well, I ended up driving 300 miles over those 10 days, and so...the actual mileage of my car was 100 miles lower than it really is.

So yeah, you can have a mechanic order a cluster through Nissan and they configure the mileage reading.

Around $21,000. Have it checked by mechanic before you close deal.

Huh?

If you guys don't think you can "turn back" a digital odometer do *I* have some "deals" for you!

Seriously.

Though it takes a different type of skill, electronic vs. mechanical, turning back a digital odometer leaves less of a "trace" than the mechanical ones did. Don't make the mistake of thinking a digital odometer can't be reset to say whatever you want it to say.

PS - I'm NOT saying this one has or hasn't, just that it's possible. By the way, I once sold a 4 year old C5 Corvette, mine, that had 6 thousand miles, low mileage "toys" are common.

Offered 22k Out the door & got rejected.

Walked out.

They will most likely call me soon when they have to meet their goals.

I thought 22k was completely fair.
