Ordered a baseline for MSRP.
HI all! I finally ended up getting me a Z !!!!! I live in DC suburbs, and the dealers WERE NOT willing to budge from MSRP on the enthusiast and base models. I haven't picked up the car yet, but I put $1000 deposit and Sterling NIssan is looking for a white Z for me. It was a battle between this and a used S2000 in mint condition. I would have gotten the S2000, but couldnt get a descent APR from Carmax. and oh I decided to keep my paid off maxima as a winter/daily driver. But the thing is, I can't stop thinking about the S2000.. before I drove it this weekend it wasnt even in my consideration, but geez, I can't forget this car. Guys please tell me I made a decision that I won't regret.
If I were you, I would have looked for a good dealer in DE, like Hertrich Nissan, and see what they have in stock or have them order one. But that's just me.
dealers around DC are so eager to make a buck

You should not at this point have to pay MSRP for an 03. As mentioned, try contacting other dealers outside of your area/state for a better deal(unless your deposit is non-refundable). It should only be at most $300.00 to ship the Z to your area on a truck. Just my 2 cents! Best of luck to ya.
Oh, and no, you won't be dissapointed with the Z either, unless you're wanting a convertable.

I paid under MSRP for my enthusiast two months ago.... Don't stick with your dealer, go elsewhere. Then see if they will go below MSRP when you tell them you have found a car elsewhere.

Is it really reasonable to NOT PAY MSRP on the base and enthu. models too? I see that you have a touring. you can haggle the prices on tourings and tracks, but are people really getting the base and enthu models under MSRP these days? should I cancel my order with the dealer? the deposit is fully refundable.
I would say so. You can check with www.edmunds.com and check the TMV (true market value) in your area. Do some research is you haven't done so already. Not sure about how the base models are selling--you have a point. I paid 1900.00 below MSRP two months ago. If the dealer won't budge (find another that will, and there will be some that will deal) and shop that price back at your dealer you left the deposit with. If not, buy from aother dealer.
But the bottom line is, pay what you feel is fair. Afterall, MSRP is what Nissan suggests, just a base starting point. It might not interest you to do all the research and haggling. It's your call, I just think this late in the year there are plenty of deals to be found out there, esp. because the 04's are due soon. Have you tried searching for the Z you want and near your area on nissanusa.com ?
Getting below MSRP on a Base or Enthusiast is touh because they are the two models with the least margin in them.
By all means check around for a better deal but should you feel guilty about paying MSRP? I don't think so.

No-one should be paying MSRP for any model. Get the spreadsheet from www.carbuyingtips.com and plug in your numbers.
Get your own financing through a credit union or bank. I got 3.9%/60 mo through Pentagon Federal. www.pentfed.org You don't even have to be military.
When I was looking, Carmax Nissan in South Carolina was selling 350zs less than MSRP.
I purchased my Performance model from Benson Nissan in Spartanburg, SC for $1500 < MSRP. Great outfit.
