I need help! G37 or 350Z?
I have been looking at the Z and G for about a month now and I still cannot decide...
I have been reading a lot of forums and one common issue with the 350 has come up and that is road noise. Is this true? Is there a lot of road noise and is it enough to actually be annoying? I know it is a sports car and genetically these cars are made to go fast and look sexy but road noise can be a damper on conversations and overall peace of mind, if it is too loud... Another issue with the 350Z I have encountered; It's sound system is lacking... Can someone debunk this? And no I don't want to fork out cash for an after market system. The 350 looks better than the G35/37 and I love that it is a true 2 seater. Also, I am about 6'1 and test drove a G35, hit my head getting in and while I was in the cockpit I just needed to reach a small amount for my head to tap the roof...
Now for the G, tailors more to the passengers and interior appeal of it's consumers, which is great. I heard that it is throatier than the Z... is this true? Is the Z really faster? One big con of the G35 is the price tag... I don't think I will be able to spend the extra money for extra seats (which I don't want), nicer interior, and not-as-sexy car (which I REALLY don't want). Plus, the G seemed a bit small for me.
Overall, my decision right now is 50/50 and I would go either way but I just can't place certain pros/cons higher or lower. The Z has looks where as the G has the amenities. Other than that it is the same car...

road noise in the z is bs. my car was always quiet until the exhaust and its still not that bad. but the non bose radio is total crap. so if you dont want to go aftermarket make sure you get that. my friend had an 05z and just bought the new g. he likes it but he said its not sporty enough. he says its too luxury for him anyway. if you can do the 2 seater go with the z all day
i test drive them both, lets just say someone thought i was in the new altima....umm yea the car is great for what it is but its not a sports car buy any means nor tries to be one. If performance is your goal with a mix of looks get the Z. ...the handeling of the g37 to me wasnt impressive and due tot he weight being excessive the engines output seems minute.. ..it does however have a really nice interior and the GPS is hella better then the Zs and the g35s. The brake system also is better and overall build quality. But after driving both rather agressive.....its really hard justifiying the g37...at least for me. I ended up buying more stuff for my Z and loving the performance charactistics . But if the back seats are what u are in need for ....i would look into a loaded g35. TO me they have gone to GT with the G37 i mean granted the G35 is a GT car aswell but the comfortlevel is just sedan like in the g37 almost no sporty character besides paddle shifters. The gearbox is smooth but just looses the sensation of speed for some reason. I guess driving a Z i apprciate hearing feeling and the comfort level of a sports cars behavoir. The test drive wiill do everything for you at least it did for me.
When I was in the market for a new car the G-37 had just come out. It was nice but just doesnt have the sports car looks or feel. So I went ahead and bought a new Z. I got the touring package with leather,Bose,Heated seats, and Bluetooth. And I'm very happy. As far as road noise there is none unless you buy a roadster.
I havent found a Z with paddle shifters, do they come with that? Been looking online and havent found a yes or no answer either... Which leads me to believe it's a no. I went to the dealership last night again and sat in another Z, I loved it so I am going to get one, not sure what color yet though or what package I want on it. I do want a nice system. There were a few with the nav in it but that seems like its too much. If I need a navigation system that bad then I will just buy an after market one for $400 instead of adding a $2500 package... lol
you guys have been a huge help, especially debunking the road noise. I suspected the reason why there might be more road noise present in the Z is b/c it is sportier... plain and simple. And I want sportier. I'm going to go test drive one middle of next week.

If you have not boughta new car yet think about this. You said you do not want to spend extra money on a new stereo in the Z, but you are thinking about getting a new G37. The 350Z is a better car in my oppinion (performance), take half of the money you saved from buying a Z instead of a G and get a nice Stereo, now you have the best of both worlds. Good Luck.
