Hey guys, so I'm currently in the market for a 350z.
Now I know somebody that's selling a 06' Touring with 11k miles and the lowest he'll go is 26k.
Some brief info on the car:
- Motor was replaced with the v2 (DE), the dealer saw small signs of the oil consumption, so they just replaced it.
- The car is one of the cleanest ones I've seen for sale. Even the engine bay is absolutely spotless.
- GPS, Burnt Orange seats, NISMO V1 rear spoiler
So is the price good? My only concern is that I was only planning on spending 20k, but I plan on keeping the car for a while, gonna track it of course. So I figure it's better to pay a bit more and start off with a nicer car than pay a little lower for a say, 04' with 50k+ miles.
THanks!

you can get a slightly used 07 enthusiast/touring for that price plus you get the HR motor.

It's got the V2 engine? I would NOT get that car. I used to have really bad oil cosumption and then got my V2 engine. The problem is somewhat fixed but its still burning oil. I'd say stay away from that car. 26k is way too much for a car that burns oil. It's gonna be a huge hassle if your local dealer doesn't want to help you with your problem. My advice is stay away from that car

ok so i thought it was a good thing that its got a v2? And why would my local dealer not help if it was replaced by a nissan dealer?
Maybe I have to read all of that million page oil consumption thread....
So if the motor has no issues, then would it be a good deal?

But, I'd pass on this one - too many red flags.

I understand. I don't need a car right away, but the snow up here is melting and everybody's bringing out the nice cars again and i'm getting spring fever.... I'm a pretty impatient guy haha.
Also the fact that it's my cousin who's selling the car. And to repeat myself, he is absolutely **** about the cleanliness of the car.
I'm also talking to another guy selling an 06 enthusiast with 23k miles for 23k.
Blah, i just want to start racing!!

Basically, you won't know if the replaced engine burns or not until you put 500-1000 miles on the car. And if it still consumes oil - you have a problem..
Worth the risk? up to you. Or you can use that to negotiate a better deal w/ warranty. Good luck

Hmmm....seems like I should just be staying away from 06's huh? Maybe take a step back and look at 05's? Or go up even more and look at 07's?
Only reason I chose the 06's from the 05's was cuz of the headlights lol

As long as the v2 doesn't show oil consumption after 1k miles, you should be in good shape. You're basically getting a new engine in a car that has 10k+ miles on the body and the rest of the drivetrain. If in doubt, you can request all of the maintenance records at the dealership and decide for yourself whether you think it's a good buy. Alternately, have your family member go and introduce you to the service advisor at the dealership that did all of the maintenance work, so you can begin a working relationship with them. Do you know how many miles has been driven since they swapped out engines?
Going back to <05 vs. 05 Anniversary + 06 vs. 07+, there were redesigns each year. Basically, you get the LED taillights ($300), Bixenon Headlights ($1k), v2 rims ($800) in the later years (06+). That's a difference of about $1500-2100 if you buy/trade out the older lights/rims to make the Z look newer. Even so, the interior from an 06+ will look 100x better than the 03-05's (including the anniversary) because they redesigned the cabin that year. Plus, the burnt orange seats and GPS is nice. Even if you swap those out, you can get about 1k for the seats, $500+ for the GPS, and the spoiler is another couple hundred bucks.
Basically, you've got a fully loaded 06 touring model with low mileage that is still under warranty if any repair work is necessary (knock on wood). That sounds pretty good to me, especially since you say the car is in immaculate condition, which counts for a couple grand difference between a car in excellent condition vs. fair. Plus you know the original owner's driving habits if it's your cousin.
