Default Value of salvage or Manufacturer buyback title

I've seen a couple cars that have low mileage, look very clean, but have a salvage or Lemon title. In general, my understanding was that a branded title made the car worth maybe half what it would be otherwise. Still, it could be a good deal if the repairs were good and complete and you were going to hang on the to car for a long time.

Thoughts?

Dave

only salvaged car I would want to own... would be if I owned it before it got salvage.. and I watched it get repaired.. but hopefully it would of been from theft... then I would paint it matt black and turn it into either a drift or track car... lol too many shady people and too many shady body shops out there for me to trust

My thought is that there are too many "ifs." Don't do it.

That is what I was wondering. A branded title makes the car worth only about 1/2 what it would be otherwise. That means that over time, the depreciation is also only half of what it would be with a normal title.

Still, lots of potential problems.

It only takes one airbag non-deployment or good hit with compromised integrity to kill you. And your depreciation argument is negated by repair money on a lemon. Pass and pass.

My apology for quoting you.

There are a group of knowledgeable people including mechanics and professional buyers who can do well buying salvage vehicles. It takes a professional to weed out the lemons. Everyone else should stay away.
