Default More credit towards a 370z to trade in or sell it?

SOOOOO....our economy is crap and no one is really buying used cars at the KBB value. Agreed?

I've got an 06 touring w 23k that I want to get rid of to buy the 370z, but I don't if it I'll be able to get a larger down payment by trading it in OR by trying to sell it.

I feel the trade in value (~17500-18000) and what I'd get selling it privately would be about the same.

What do you guys think? Do you think dealers are going to knock down trade in values too?

I think you will get better if you sell it privately. Dealers are always gonna low ball you in the trade in so they can turn around and sell it at a profit.

Just be patient. Someone will come along and buy your car if you sell privately.

wait till october - December of every year. They will always do whatever it takes to sell the 2010 models. I have seen dealers give 3K cash back and 0% APR. Just Patience.

maybe not for a Z, but I got more then the KBB value for my accord (v6 so not super gas efficient) when I picked up my Z.

here's a better answer: TRY to privately sell in the mean time - once more are aware of a 370z, your car will drop in value even moreso (at least in the market for the Z..). if you fail, you can take the loss and trade in if you desire one that badly.

KBB is a good indicator but imperfect. One problem with KBB numbers is that they are several months behind indicating prices past not present. Also KBB does not show trends.

Consider that potential new car buyers may either delay their purchase or go used.

If you sell to an individual, you will get something close to retail price.

If you sell it (trade it) to a dealer, you will get wholesale price.

Guess which one is higher, wholesale vs retail.
