Default What's a reasonable offer for these new 2008 Z's?

Hi everyone. This is my first post and already I have a question. My lease is up on my A4 in a couple of months and I'm looking to buy my next car. I wanted to keep the purchase price in the lower 20's so obviously a 350 even at invoice is too high. But with the 370 hitting showrooms now, I'm trying to see if I can "steal" a 2008. Here are my options, all 6MT:

Enthusiast Nogaro Red MSRP: $31,705
Enthusiast Magnetic Black MSRP: $31,205
Enthusiast Pikes Peak White MSRP: $31, 205
Base San Marino Blue MSRP: $30,790 (chrome rims, etc.)

Soooo, the dealer is going to expect me to give him a price soon. What do you guys think would be a reasonable offer? Even if it gives me more of an advantage. Do you think I can get any of these for around 21k or 22k? Or is that just being ridiculous? Any input is greatly appreciated.

Base 350z's can be had around now for $21k-$22k before TTL so add about $2k for the enthusiast model and a great deal will be around $23-$24k before TTL. That's about $3k under invoice and since they have 3 enthusiasts left, the dealer will be more motivated to move them so you might even get it for cheaper.

Thanks for the quick replies. David, I'm not sure what you mean by these prices. Do you think those are reasonable? They seem kind of high for 2008's. What's your reasoning?

I believe they are reasonable offers yes. Instead of checking invoice less a couple hundred dollars, I just go 85 percent of MSRP. Makes things simple.

Well guys, the dealer gave me $25,6xx AFTER a $2,500 rebate. That does not include TTL. I think getting them to 24k otd is going to be impossible

its real simple, go in there with the check written. tell them to make it work or you will go to another dealer who will.

agreed with Jason. after TTL they are going to charge you nearly 370z prices? what a joke.

they can hang on to their cars longer.

Wow that's crazy! How did you accomplish that? If I could use some of your methods maybe I can get these guys down. Cuz it doesn't look like they're budging. And the ones I'm looking at are enthusiasts, not sure how much of a difference that makes though.

give it a week, if they thought you were serious they will call you back with a new offer.

check out other dealerships, the Z is not a hard to find car by any means.

I'm hoping. I've come across a few 2008s but most of them in my area are all automatics. Just a quick question for everyone too. Is it worth it to get the enthusiast over the base? Don't care about cruise control but the TCS and VSA(?) and limited slip seem like some good features to have.

yea I went in a week ago and they said 25,500 and I walked. came back a week later and said I would only do it if the difference between the new car and trade in was 10,000 out the door. It took a wile and i even left for an hour to "think" about it. when I came back they went down the last 500.

Also they had 11 08s on the lot so they really wanted to get rid of them.

Ah ok so you had a trade in to work with. I, unfortunately, do not have that leverage. When I came back at the guy with 25,635 LESS the 2500 rebate which would be 23, 135 before TTL he copped a bit of an attitude and said something like "what gives you the idea that a dealership is willing to lose thousands of dollars on a car!? I know the market is bad blah blah blah..." So basically he thought I was nuts.

I'm not making any money on this deal at all! You don't want my children to starve, do you?

You must be crazy, we have never sold a hot car like the 350Z for lower than MSRP!

These cars are flying off the lot. We can't get them in fast enough!

What gives you the idea that a dealership is willing to lose thousands of dollars on a car? We're in business to make money!

Go back and try again. Ask him if he's reconsidered in a week or so. Or try a different dealer, you might have to drive a little.

because if they "lose thousands" to you, which is hilarious btw, even at the marked down prices they are making money, they don't have to lose more thousands to the next guy as the economy worsens and the 370z is more mainstream.

don't let them make you feel like you're asking too much.

I just got a base Nogaro red, 24,000 before TTL, friend got the same car for 24650. In Texas. Thats about 1200 off invoice minus incentive for mine. Sticker on mine was 30025.

I got this quote for a 08' touring, dark silver, auto.

$27,785 plus fees.

Any opinions on how low I should ask them to go without getting laughed at? Car will probably be paid cash, all at once.
