What should I offer for a 08?
At a local dealership they have a few Z's left. 2 base - 2 enthusiasts.
Bases are selling for 25 and Enthusiasts for 26.
Right now the dealership is running a 1500 dealer cash, or 2500 rebate program.
What should I offer for the base and/or the enthusiast?
I'm in a bit of a pickle, because I bought a 09 Civic Si for 23,300, in oct, and now it has 20,500 on the loan, with 5k miles. Anyone thing I could also con them into paying my civic off?
Thanks

I think if you try to trade your new civic in you are going to get raped. I am guessing they will give about $15K for your civic and you could probably get the the base 08 Z for about $21.5K. Or they will pay your car off and make you pay $26.5K for the base. Stupid numbers game.

This thread isn't about my mistake, it was just a question. I jumped into the car too quickly, because my previous car was shooting craps. I paid a lot for the civic, because I ordered the new model, before it even came out.

firstly find out what they are offering you for your civic si, and find out how much upside down you'll have to transfer to the new car. 2ndly find out what their lowest price is, I personally would not pay more then 23kotd for the base or 25k otd for the enthusiast
at least you paid the civic down a bit, but I wouldn't expect their trade in offer to be generous. it will help if you have cash to add to the deal

I'm thinking that I might just keep the civic, for at least a year. They are known for really holding their value, and I pay at least an extra 100 a month, on the car. Realistically, I shouldn't have paid any more than 21,500 for the si... ah, the learning curve of buying a new car. I think it would be best to just keep my decently fun DD, for now, and sell it in about a year, when I'll have about 14k left on the loan. One year old Si's with about 15k miles on them usually trade in for about 17/18. Then I can make a little money on the Si and buy myself a low mileage 07/08 350z, or something else.
Thanks for the help, guys.

It would be difficult to "make a little money" on the Si due to the fact that your monthly payments involve interest, no matter how little. I realize you got the 0.9% interest rate. However, you also paid sales tax, which I believe you cannot recover when you trade the Civic for another car, on which you will pay tax as well. I don't think Missouri is one of the states that charges sales tax only on the difference between the new car and the trade. If I am incorrect, please let me know so that I may have this knowledge in the future.

Keeping the si is a smart move. It will be a much more practical car as a DD than a Z would be. Also, if you trade it in an buy another car, you are going to really take it in the shorts financially. The only worse move than buying a new car, is to buy a new car and quickly turn it over. If you keep the car for at least five years, the financial hit isn't so bad. Look at it this way, in 5 years, you may need/want/afford a second fun car and you can buy a used 370z or any number of other great cars.

I see this a lot, the thing is, if you have negative equity in your car you'll need to bring some cash to the table so banks will be willing to finance the deal.
Thing is, KBB doesn't buy cars, so using their TMV trade in calculator really doesn't help a lot in finding out what your true market value of your car is. I suggest finding someone willing to take over your payments.

If I keep the Si for one year, I'll only have 14k on the loan. Other fellow Si owners are reporting that trading in a si with one year and 20k or so miles on it usually gets around 17k. That's not too bad. I only put 2k in trade in down on the car, so I'm really not losing much.
If a 08z isn't still seeming like a good option, at the end of the year, the Genesis seems more and more appealing, every time I learn more about it, or look at the pictures.
I'm not worried about DD that much. I'm young. If I can't handle a sports car at 23, I don't think I'll ever be able to. My sentra had after market shocks, springs, anti roll bars, and stiffer motor mounts, and it didn't bother me. It was much more of a harsh ride/DD than a 350.
