Default Strange light on new Z

Hey guys

I have a question, yesterday I test drove a 350Z 2008 touring, it had 30 miles on it and the service light was on !!! The salesman told me that it was the fuel tank light (the gas tank was empty) but I have my doubt !! (I did not specify her that it was the service light, I just said that I saw a light near the fuel gauge).

Is it normal ? I mean service light on on a brand new Z ? ...

Thanks guys

Well if the gas light was on then you probably needed gas...
If the service light was on then you probably shouldn't buy the car...

Kind of a bid difference.

sometimes if the gas top is not tightened well enough the gas tank could loose pressure and service light will come on. not sure if its still true on the z's i've yet it happen to mine so someone correct me if im wrong. So it might be something as simple as that or maybe car really is f*cked up lol.

It was a little orange dot? Or a squared light that says SES? In any case, it sounds like you saw the fuel gauge light.

If it was the SES it could be as simple as the fuel cap not being all the way on.

If you can't tell the difference between the two lights, then you probably should not be buying the car, regardless of which light it was.

Ok, I hope it is something like that !!! I mean on a new car this is kind of strange ... The symbol was a sort of exclamation point between brackets .

Thanks for the answer
When I was driving the car the fuel tank was almost empty and I just saw a light near the gauge so she just assumed it was a the empty fuel light ...
That's not mean that she is incompetent or something .... And I did not paid attention ... I was thinking on how the car drives and stuff
Thanks for those who have been helpful

Hey guys,
I just picked up a fully load 350Z touring 2008, white pearl with orange burn leather with everything, nav, side airbags, aerodynamics package, 18" chrome wheels, and free tint + nitrosomething tire. The car is new, 20 miles on it.
The sticker was $39,000 I paid $28,900 + TTLs .... I am pretty happy
Have a great day
