Default 2006 ZR worth a ~$5k price bump?

As I get nearer to purchasing the donor for my charity project ZR, I'm noticing that there is around a $5K price difference for 2006 over 2005. I have '05s in the L.A. area at ~$15k, then it bumps to around $20K for an '06.

And of course I've been reading these forums 'til I'm dizzy, getting contradicting answers of whether '05 or '06 is best. Personally, I love the interior changes of the 06 and the headlights/tails seem to be an improvement, but I think I can take or leave anything else - unless you guys think of something I'm overlooking, especially mechanically.

My car will be a daily driver, and shown at up to 160 charity/kids events a year. Modified more for show than go- my current car is all about looks, with few engine mods, so I expect to do the same with the ZR. I'm at 10 years/223K miles on the current vehicle, and I hope to get the same out of the ZR.

So should I stick with the '05 I'm looking at (Touring, 60k, $14.2, warranty until April), maybe making some upgrades to '06 cosmetic parts? Or pony up the cash for '06?

I remember you. I'd pony up and get the 06. I love my 06. The headlights at night are incredible, the wheels look so much better, and just all around the 06 to me is better. Plus the extra hp that you don't feel but you know is there.

I also remember you: cool laser guns mounted on the side and some sort of robot on the rear deck.

Overall reliability of the 2005 and 2006 is the same.

Since you're going to make your car into a show car I'd go wit the 2005.
The wheels and lights can all be changed for less than the $5,000 you're going to save. I doubt you will keep the stock wheels on either model year anyways.

Good luck with your project.

Been having a great time with the new Z- have already put 1K on it, none with the roof up. I really do love the CA weather.

Ended up with an '05 for $14K. I've started planning the paint and building the guns. R2 is next, and have picked up a sponsor for autosound. Wish the mods were going faster, but that's pretty normal.
