Default Price on Extended Warranty?

I just bought my Z a week and a half ago. My dealer is still extending me the offer on introductory extended warranty plan.

I'm looking at the Security+plus Gold Preferred package, 5 year 75,000 mile, for $894.

Do you think I could shop around and get better?

Get the package. But more importantly, get the gap protection. I think I paid too much for mine

You only need GAP if you didn't put a lot of $ down. All GAP does is pay your car off if you are in a wreck. So if you put a lot down, like I did, then you don't need it. $450 for Gap sounds pretty expensive to me though.

Are you sure that the Gold warranty is 5 years and 75,000? Gold should be 6 year, 100,000 mile, thats the one I have. I paid about $1500, but it should be well worth it in the long run.

WHATEVER YOU DO: Do not buy the wheel/tire warranty or the Theft warranty. You cannot cancel them and get your $ back.

You can with the gold warranty though.

One last thing. That extended warranty is not by Nissan, it is a private company. And the extended warranty only kicks in after your normal 3 year 36,000 or 50,000 mile warranty, I can't remember. So basically you are paying for 2 more years and 29,000/15,000 more miles.

So basically your paying for 2 extra years. Not worth it in my opinion, but then again I could be wrong.

I got an extra 3 years and 64,000 miles, but I paid a little more. Its all up to you, you have to make the important decisions. GL!

you guys all got ripped, retail MSRP for the Nissan 72 Month/100k mile warranty is under $900.00. If you paid anything more than this you, you just put money in your dealers pocket!

You can even buy the warranty direct from Nissan! Come on guys do your research !!!! Save yourself some money!

What does that mean?

I went with 6 year 100K mile extended warranty for $1196.

It's fully refundable plus gives you all the extra benefits of rental car, road side assistance, etc. Basically makes it like Infiniti's service benefits.

The fact that it's fully refundable before you break the 3year 36K warranty and then pro rated refundable after that made it worth it to me.

I called over 12 dealers....none of them were as low as you claim. And how would you order it directly from Nissan?

my dealer offers a lifetime warranty on the engine and tranny if you have all the service work done by them per the premium schedule in the service booklet......im sure most people dont keep their cars that long but im thinking i may actually keep this Z as a toy or something for later so its pretty nice deal.

What does the warranty cover?
Does it cover any of the maintanance costs?
Or does it only cover defective parts along with the labor?

The Security+plus Gold Preferred that I got only covers parts and labor with a $50 deductible.

Certain parts aren't included such as lens, bulbs, exhaust, interior, fading, water damage, etc.

But all seals, gaskets, electrical, etc is covered.

You don't need to get an extended warranty until your current warranty is about to expire. Even after your manufacturers warranty expires, you still don't need it unless your car is having recurring workmanship problems or manufacturing problems. The extended warranty doesn't even go into effect until you have exceeded your manufactures warranty. The extended warranty covers manufacturing and workmanship defects after your current warranty expires. Almost all problems will occur during the regular warranty. Any major problems that pop up will result in a recall. If the car is recalled, you will be covered warranty or not. An extended warranty is good if you bought a close to new car "as is" and the warranty was not transferable.

Gap Insurance is a good idea when the car is new whether you purchased it or leased it. It basically covers the cost difference between the market price and replacement price of your car if you total it. Since the price difference is greatest in the first three years of the car it is good peace of mind. Just don't assume that the one the dealer is offering is the best deal. Do your homework and check with all the insurance companies or your current insurance carrier. A Gap rider is usually inexpensive to add-on and you know exactly how much coverage you have and can cancel it at any time. The insurance companies will work with you to determine how much insurance you actually need and how much you are willing to pay. A gap rider from an insurance company is a declining cost, as the replacement price of the car nears the market price, gap insurance becomes less until you reach a point that you no longer need it.
