Need advise choosing please...
Hello all. My name is Tripp and I am new to the forum here. I am looking at getting a new (to me) car and the Z has caught my eye. I am looking at 3 in particular and was hoping to get some advise on choosing which would be the best.
Option 1:
2005 35th Anniv. Ed.
2 Owners
19,427 Miles
Yellow w/Black Leather
Manumatic
Excellent Condition
$21,977.00
Option 2:
2006 Grand Touring
1 Owner
32,794 Miles
Dark Red w/ Black Leather
6 Speed Manual
Great Condition (Few Minor Scratches and rock dings in Paint)
$22,990
Option 3:
2007 Touring
1 Owner
30,980 Miles
Silver w/Black Leather
6 Speed Manual
Great Condition (Few Minor Scratches and rock dings in Paint)
$23,997
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Tripp

have you done your research? do you know which years have which engine, which models have which features?
that being said, if it were up to me, I would choose option 3. I would want the HR engine. price is not acceptable for the year/miles though, that should fetch around 20k. not fond of silver - dime a dozen, boring (personal opinion)
option 2 would be tempting if it has the true GT wheels/brembos intact. depends on what you want out of a car, there is also a slight risk that the engine in it will burn oil and it will be a headache to sort out with nissan if it does.

Thanks Entaille, I have done a bit of research, but I dont have all the engine data locked in just yet.
The 07 is the only one I have not driven yet. I drove the 06 and the 05 and the 05 seemed a lot faster. I have read the stories about the 06's burning oil too and that was a concern as well. Obviously I want to get the best car for the money. So you think I should be able to get an 07 with comparable miles for about $20k?
Thanks again!

sure do. I'll give you a basic run down that will be close to accurate:
03-05 VQ35DE engine
05 35th anniversary editions and 06 models are the rev up edition with a few more horses
07-08 have the VQ35HR engine which is a pretty nice upgrade.
the anni 05 and the 06 you drove should have felt very similar in power - but one being auto and one being manual, I would think you should feel a little more kick in the manual, since it doesn't lose as much power to the wheels.. odd.
here is a great thread to read through. be informed on your purchase, because the dealers won't know **** about the car they are trying to sell you.

I had read on another forum that buyers should just go ahead and opt for the 2007 or later because of the engine(s).
David, frankly I liked the 05 better than the 06. Wasn't crazy about the yellow, but it drove really well and was very zippy. The manumatic left a little to be desired with the pause between gear change, but other than that, I really liked it. Maybe I just didn't drive the 06 hard enough.
Looks like I need to look at 07 or later and work on some serious negotiations.
I had a 3rd gen RX-7 a few years ago and loved it. I got separated a few months ago and I have been dying to get another sport car.
Thanks again for everyone's input so far.

I think I am going to pursue the 07. It is an hour away, but it would be worth it to get a later model for a better price, and based on what I have read I should go 07 or later anyway.

Unless I am seeing it wrongly - which I doubt... the 06 ISN'T a Grand Touring Model... I don't see Brembo Brakes (usually gold in color) thru the spokes and the Wheels are not the Grand Touring wheels with the trademark square divets in them... I'll bet those are 18's all around unlike the ad that states they are staggered 18 front 19 rear... It looks like there are only two buttons between the seats... VDC would put a 3rd button there. Other than that my last note is that a couple of the wheels have Curb rash all over them.
I would talk them down to 18K if you like it... It is the sweetest color IMHO out there. With that low mileage it may still be under warranty - I Heard if its an Oil burner, you get a new engine.. and if you do buy it... Let me know - I gotta set of 18" stockies that I'll part with reasonably... and I live just down the road from you.

You are absolutely right. After looking at the pics again, I do not see the Brembo brakes either. Also, if you are referring to the seat adjustment buttons, you are correct, there are in fact only 2, which I remember from when I drove it. The warranty just ran out at 30k, but they have a 30 day from the dealer. (I know, big whoop) I will go by and look at it again to check the brakes, but I don't think they are Brembo's.
some dealership tried to pass a touring off as a grand touring to me too, and the price reflected that. I went home and studied up and was discusted at the **** they tried to pull on me. : )

Thanks for looking out. I would not have caught that myself. If I cant work something on the 07 I might go back and try to renegotiate with the guy on the 06.
