Default 2005 350z to buy or not to buy

Hello again,

I found another 350z that I'm kinda unsure of. I figured I'd ask the proffesionals again. I found a black 2005 350z with like 25000 miles on it. The guy has invidia exhaust and intake in there as well as nismo seats. I checked carfax and it has no accident history and looks pretty sound overall. The guy wants 16000 for it. I wanted to know if this was too expensive or about right. I figured I'd get info from where I can before I shell all this money over. Thanks!

Also, it has cruise control buttons on the steering wheel which leads me to believe that it is not a base model and does in fact have LSD. The owner doesn't know the model, but I'm happy as long as it has LSD.

CC = non-base = VLSD. Is it an anniversary edition (rev-up motor)? What is the Edmunds True Market Value?

Well, I checked Kbb and it was like 16300, but I thought for this price I would be able to get maybe an 06. Also, I'm pretty sure it's not an anniversary edition because it only has cruise control buttons on the steering and nothing else, I could be wrong though but I assume the anniversary would at least have radio control buttons as well.

probably an enthusiast

16000 is fair. I would offer him 15k on the spot. be ready to pay his asking price if you'd like it and there aren't better deals in the area.

Don't go by KBB. KBB is more for dealers to get the most $, their code is written gauged towards the dealers. Edmunds.com is written for the consumer, so always double check there. www.edmunds.com Don't forget to know all the options so you can price it fairly, the dealers will give you a print out of all the options, but it's up to you to do your homework and make sure that a) that car actually has those options and b) they are actually options and not things that would be standard given the model of the car. DEALERS DO THIS ON PURPOSE. Let me re-phrase more clearly: Dealers (at least Nissan) will add options to a vehicle (kbb allows this in their software) that the vehicle comes with standard.

For example, when I bought our Titan LE, the dealer gave me the KBB print out showing the base value for the Titan LE then additions for options: side rails, Rockford Fosgate stereo, spray-on bedliner, and leather, which totaled like $5k in options. Too bad those things were standard on the LE. I called their bluff. I honestly think my 19 year old salesman didn't know any better, but when I went to the manager, he danced around and hand-waved like an idiot. I actually did buy the car. They were asking $30k, and I paid $22k. They'll do anything for an extra (couple thousand) bucks. THAT'S why you need to use Edmunds as well.

$16k would not be "fair" assuming it was an Enthusiast. That's what dealer RETAIL is assuming they have checked the car over, detailed it, fixed minor problems, and paid for advertising it.

OP:
Does it have leather?
BOSE stereo?
6spd or auto?
Brembos?
Head/side airbags?
Navigation?
Rear spoiler?
Satellite radio?
Chrome wheels?
These wheels (anniversary)?

We know it's not a base, but the "fair" price range for the others is $14-18k depending on the model - more if it has some options. But in this economy, fair price doesn't mean what you could get it for (I bought my 03' enthusiast for less than $10k).

Thx for all the quick replies. To answer you questions:
Does it have leather?- It has nismo leather seats that the guy bought seperately
BOSE stereo? This, I actually don't know
6spd or auto? 6 speed
Brembos? don't know
Head/side airbags? don't know
Navigation? No
Rear spoiler?Yes
Satellite radio?No
Chrome wheels? He actually has his own aftermarket wheels that he bought, they are ASA 19" black with chrome lip
These wheels (anniversary)? he actually doesn't even have the original rims, which is actually what I'd rather have

On a side note, this guy is crazy. He listed for 17k and won't even budge on the price. I think 16k is kind of a lot for his car, but he wants 17k.........I think its time I yet again start searching for another one....

PASS.

But not to bust your *****, you need to do a little more digging on the car (like if it has Brembo brakes or not) to accurately determine and check the fair value. Good luck with your NEW search.

I would memorise models before shopping. Hell take a cheat sheet with you.

$1,000 may not be deal breaker. But knowing the proper model may be a negotiating point.

Thx for all the advice guys. I passed on this one cause the guy didn't want less than 17k....hell I don't even know if I wanted it for 16k, definitly a no brainer.

I found another one that I'm going to get probably tomorrow. Its a 2006 touring with 50k miles for 16.5k. It has a couple scratches and the wheels are a little scrached up as well, but drivetrain and clutch are awesome. Its like 4 hours away but I think its worth it for this price. Tell me what you guys think about this one!

Its also is a one owner car and has a clean carfax.
