Default Prepurchase advise :)

Hello,

I own an 07 eclipse Gt (auto), the time has come to get a different car. I have looked at g37/370z/g35/350z and test drove all but the g37.
Basically it comes down to the price and my personal preference but I still want input from you guys

I test drove a 370z coupe and 350z coupe back to back both MT (sick and tired of auto). Straight line acceleration wise I did not feel a difference at all, interior goes hands down to the 370, but the 350 isn't bad at all, both interiors are much nicer than my 07 eclipse interior. It wasn't a hard decision and the 350z won me over hands down, the price I can pick one up for is significantly cheaper then a z34 and to be honest I abhor the new boomerang headlights.
(not trying to start a war here just need advice)

I am down to 2 cars locally, an 07 base and an 08 enthusiast, both have under 18k miles but the enthusiast is about 3,000$ more then the base, the prices are from one of the car sale websites so I am assuming not much room for negotiation.

What would you do in my shoes, get the base or the enthusiast. It will be a daily driver about 25 mile round trip, is the price difference really worth it?
I did my research; and the only thing that I would love from the enthusiast is the steering wheel controls/cruise, everything else I really don't care much for.

Oh as far as modding goes; Just going to do the basic bolt ons H/E (I hear the 07/08 intake is sufficient) Tune/coil overs/wheels (Rpf01's or te37's for cheap) and that should be it. (that new supercharger by GTM is definitely on the to do list down the road.)

Thanks for reading, can't wait to become a part of this community!

Pass on the base - go with the Enthusiast.

BTW - everything is negotiable.

I rock a base 06' and love it. Only thing it doesnt have besides the steering wheel controls is tcs, and a limited slip diff. Only thing i hate is not having the limited slip. I can live without everything else. But like the guy before me said, get what works for you. My 2 cents ne ways.

Do you want to drive the car or work on it? Have you seen all the threads here about problems with the MT and clutch? The AT is bulletproof and just as quick as the MT.

I'd definitely go with the Enthusiast over the Base, though. The cruise control and steering wheel buttons are really handy.

There's a non-base '07 white coupe with AT at the dealer here. I'd be happy to ride by and give it a test drive for you.

You're joking right? I have had no issues with my clutch.

Personally, I drove the AT and was not fond of it. I like the MT much better which is why I bought it. But, buy why you enjoy driving most.

I would get the 08 Enth since I have a 04 base and HATE not having Cruise Control and LSD. Personally I would go for a 07/08 Grand Touring since at least from my observations the selling price from a base to a GT are not much...Do alto of price research and be willing to expand a search outside of your immediate area..could save you tons of money. Best of luck !

hes asking what we would do in his situation ... he knows he needs what suits him... i would say get the enthusiast mt ... the lim slip and steering wheel cruise control ... a 25 miles round trip is a slight distance so go for the cruise control.. i drive an enthusiast and love it .... Goodluck in your decision !

OEM clutch & tranny on my '03 - closing in on 100,000 miles. I would not be happy with an un-modded base - my advise is the Enthusiast.

If ti's a car you really want to mod and keep working on, you could save the $3000 getting the base, then get an aftermarket LSD installed for $1200-1500.

If you want a car just to be your daily driver, get the enthusiast. Mine is a base and I miss having an LSD, so that's is in my future mods list. Cruise has never been important to me, but if you want it, then you'll need to get that enthst.

I drive a base and if I get on it in corners or if the roads even damp its all over the place or just spins...If I were going to keep her longer I would get a after market lsd but just making due till next year when I move into a 370z. Mines also a DD and not having cruise sucks,I thought it didnt matter but the position my leg sits in after driving an hour ro so almost starts to cramp and over longer drives gets sore as hell but I am also 6'4 so less room in a 350 for me than most

Will I be kicking myself later on for getting the 350 over 370?
In other words, is the aftermarket dieing for this car/ not as much following anymore?
I usually keep my car 3 years at least.

There is plenty of after market support for the 350z. I mean hell you can change just about every single part on the 350. The 370 is the one that is still in the r&d phase. Meaning that they havent fully realized the full potential of the vq37 yet. Whereas, the vq35 has already gone 4 digits in the power band. Not to mention, I like the looks of the 350 better imho.

Yea, the headlights kill me on the 370 as well. The tails I dont mind. I did see a black NISMO 370 (in person) that I would quickly give my DB over for, but then again, its the new NISMO, HUGE $$. Unless its a NISMO, I am keeping my 350. LOL at the comment asking if you want to drive or fix your car in regards to the MT vs Auto. I love the 6MT in the Z. No issues at all here. I do agree that the autos seem to be very solid, but coming from two autos myself, I know exactly what the OP is talking about. I am/was done with auto as well. I have never looked back, and would kick myself in the nuts frequently if I had gotten another stupid tiptronic tranny.

Starting in 1st, any more than 10-15% on the throttle in the rain will spin the tires (or should I say "spin the tire")...

The new Nismo's are just beautiful. But paying more than double (low mileage 07-08 Z33s are $20k, 2010 Nismo is 40k+) is a bit much...
