Default MSRP Z's Available Bay Area!

Here's an e-mail I just got from a local dealer in the Bay Area. Hope this helps you guys.

Dear Brandon Lim:
Thank you for your recent request regarding the 2003 Nissan 350 Z Sports Car! You came to the right place.

We have 26 new 2003 Nissan 350 Z units allocated to us. The first of those units will be built and delivered in August 2002. We are now taking orders for the September allocation. The next units available will be 8 in September and 8 more in October.

This is going to be one awesome sports car, a true sports car not one that just looks like a sports car. With the 3.5L DOHC 4 Valve V6 280 HP engine (260 Flbs Torque), with Molybdenum-coated pistons (friction reducing) and individual oil-jets to cool the pistons, it will be very competitive with just about anything on the road. It will come standard with a 6-speed “close-ratio” manual transmission and will have the 5-speed automatic transmission available. You will have the choice of five trim levels for your 350Z; Track, Touring, Performance, Enthusiast and Base.

The base MSRP prices on all five, without any options, is as follows:

Base 6-Spd Manual $26,269

Enthusiast 6-Spd Manual $28,249
Enthusiast 5-Spd Auto $29,219

Performance 6-Spd Manual $30,429

Touring 6-Spd Manual $33,179
Touring 5-Spd Auto $31,589

Track 6-Spd Manual $34,079

For now we are selling these units at a firm MSRP price and that is without further mark-up,

Nissan is allowing us to pre-sell these units and we have a pre-buyers agreement that allows you to choose the unit you want and have it built the way you want it.

If you have further interest in purchasing your 350 Z please let me know by return e-mail or better yet let’s discuss the unit of your choice on the telephone. My direct line is 408.234.6629

Sincerely,

JJ Santo Domingo

They certainly changed their tune, didn't they? Just a week ago, they were asking for 10k over MSRP. I guess all the complaining to NNA actually did something.

I got a call on wednesday from a salesman there and he told me they wanted $5k over for the LeMans Touring MT that they had. I went by last night to take a look (not because I wanted to buy it, but because I hadn't seen that color in person) but it was already gone.

What's the date of that e-mail from the dealership. The way I read it, it was written before August. During the preorder period perhaps?

Wow, I went there this pass weekend and they had the Orange colored one in the back. The salesman who showed it to me was bragging about how they sold one for 8k over MSRP. He then jokingly said I could get one if I paid 80k for one. Yah right!

Stevens Creek dealerships are known for their jacked up prices.

They just sent me the e-mail 3 days ago. I'm pretty sure they are referring to preorders at MSRP only, not Z's in stock.

Am I ever glad I gave my dealer a down payment in January!!!! I knew it would be impossible to get one of the first Z's if you didn't preorder!!!!

Seems strange that your dealer has 16 (8 in Sep and 8 in Oct) ready for buyers who didn't preorder. Mine is supposed to be here in Nov (10 month wait). Feel like I'm getting spoon fed.

Oh well... rant over.

Out

Just got a call from Stevens Creek Nissan. dealer stated 10 350Zs are coming in soon and would like to know if I would be interested in one. he didn't have any specs on the cars coming in. i asked him if they are at MSRP. he said to come in and "negotiate". sounds like a hard sell to me.

I can tell you that i tried to deal with these guys several times when trying to preorder and they are just ridiculous.

Give your business to someone else.

Falore up the street is no better. The guy I talked to over there wanted a $3500 non-refundable deposit, and want $5000-$8000 over MSRP. I told him he wouldn't be seeing me again. Too bad there are enough people out here that are willing to pay it. I wouldn't agree to either of those terms, just on principle. I can't believe this guy though, $3500 non refundable, does he think the car is going to sit on the showroom for a year if I don't buy it? Dirito Bros in Walnut Creek is the only one I have found so far that would let me put down a refundable deposit, and are selling at MSRP.

Yeah just got a call and e-mail from them. Hopefully they'll be at MSRP, but I'm not holding my breath. I will be kicking myself for preordering if they area at MSRP though.

Doc Whitmore here at Stevens Creek Nissan. Just doing some follow up about your last e mail. Good news.. I have about ten 350Z that are due to hit our store in the next week. Give me a call and lets talk about how ready you are to move forward with the purchase. Thanks again, Doc Whitmore.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Stevens Creek Nissan are a bunch of opportunistic leeches.

There's no way in hell they are going to let those go for MSRP. I bet they will all have a 5-10k markup.

If they really are getting 10 in next week, does that mean other dealerships in the area are expecting new shipments too? Maybe I'll be able to get a Z sooner than I thought!

I was getting frustrated in finding a dealer here in the Northern Cali - Bay Area to sell the car @ MSRP. Seems like they all want to mark up the car. So I started emailing dealers listed at www.nissandriven.com within my zip code. The best quote I got was from Magnussen Nissan in Newark, CA. He stated that he was the Fleet & Internet Sales manager and was willing to sell the car @ MSRP. He also stated that you won't get this deal through the floor sales people since they mark it up. $1000 refundable deposit, order will come in Jan 2003. WooHoo!

Looks like a DB Track is in my future. Excellent way to start off the New Year. Now, to test my patience...

Zowie:

I'm surprised you couldn't find a dealer that would sell at MSRP for an ORDERED car. I know of 3 dealers that aren't even marking up cancelled cars (Freeman Nissan, Vallejo Nissan & North Bay Nissan all in Sonoma County.

ALL deposits in Calif. are refundable. It's the law! Actually deposits for unbuilt cars are also illegal but because nobody questions it or doesn't want to loose the opportunity to buy their desired car it's never really reported or enforced.
