Arrow Is this a good buy? Any Dangers for this Model Year?

hello guys, I'm new to this forum,
I have been looking around for a nice 350z. It seems there's very subtle but important differences for every single model year.

http://carmax.com/enus/view-car/defa...7-d20035ab3b74

This blue 07' 350z are one of the ones I'm considering,

I have done a bit of research and it seems that the 07 Zs' equipped with MT had a recall for the slave cylinder?

I'm a bit worried about it because I'm not a 100% sure if the vin# falls under the vin. Should i spend another 1.5k for an 08?

and also one more question, I dont mean to put too much on you guys but I'm trying to pick the car up before winter hits real bad and its too late and I have to wait till after winter.

What winter setup is best?

I have used the search feature and it seems so many people are using the 17inch setups?

I went on tire rack and they dont show any alternative sizes but the 18inches

I thought it would be best to go to a narrower tire? does 18 inch winter tires sound like a bad idea?

if anybody have had success with a 17 inch setup, do you mind giving me the tire measurements for front and rear?

THANK YOU SO MUCH

if everything goes well, ill be paying for the shipment in a couple of days.

I know im rushing this, but i cant wait till after winter!

Just get the 07 if you ok with the mileage. I bought my Z from CarMax, though it's a bit more expensive than elsewhere, but I did manage to get mine with only 10k miles. They generally sell pretty good condition ones. Also if you nervous, you can get their warranty too. It's pretty cheap compared to other extended warranty. I got it in case the transmission goes bad.

Thanks for the advice. I thought about gettig their extended warranty but what if i end up puttin modifications in?? How long are their extended warranties? A year? And if i dont grt one, do i basically get none? Can i get one later on if i decide its a better idea to, or do i have to get it on the day of purchase?

Theirs really no real difference between the 07-08 models. The engines are exactly the same as are the options and trims. The slave cylinder your referring to isn't that big of a deal and it's been 3-4yrs since the car has come out so it's more than likely been changed in that time. I think you should consider trim options more than a particular year because the HR's are all the same. Good luck

Yes 07-08 are the same each have slave issue.I'd recommend if you get it once you upgrade clutch upgrade the slave as well. Warranty wise if you mod the car don't really expect them to honor it.

The way CarMax's warranty works is, you get to add an additional amt of years onto your car regardless of how old it is, and up to a certain mileage. So if your Z is already high mileage, then the warranty won't be worth as much to you. Like for me, my Z is 2007, but the warranty I got is another 7 years and up to 72000 miles, but my car has only 10k, so basically I can drive another 62k.

I only got the warranty in case my transmission goes bad. Warranty = $1200, each time you fix transmission at full cost is probably 1-2k. Better to play it safe than be sorry. However if you want to risk it, the 06+ Zs do have the newer CD009 transmission so technically it shouldn't have the synchro issues. However, I test drove a 370z prior to buying my 350z and the 370z (2009) grinded when I shifted fast into 5th so who knows. Besides that, I don't really think the 07+ Zs have much other major issues. The Clutch Master Cylinder is a TSB so just contact Nissan and have them run your VIN and see if you qualify.

Warranty is not covered on what you mod. If you change your headunit and the new one goes bad, obviously the aftermarket one isn't going to be covered. Same with anything else stock you replaced.

Some people don't believe in buying warranties, and some do. I personally don't know too much about modding cars, but if you are more hands on and are not afraid to experiment / fix things / DIY, you can prolly go without the warranty. Basically the 07 Zs will be out of warranty asides from the drive train if it's low enough mileage.

i know it's a bad idea to buy a rwd sports car in the beginning of winter but i got a suv that should get me everywhere. i just dont want to have to wait another four months before i can start getting one.
I'm sure you guys hate having to wait for a Z

but my question is, do you guys feel any difference in your butts when you drive an 06 or 07-08

whats the disadvantages of having an 06 rather than a 07 or 08?

06-mainly oil burning issue, less horsepower
07+ higher horsepower (hence dual intake), and better shocks (I know there is a big difference between 03,04 and 07+)

Don't get an 06.
I had an 06 with 14K miles lined up for 17K even and passed on it when I researched the oil burning issue. Got an 08 and spent a little more. Also...HR MUCH improved motor.
The slave cyl issue on 07 is easily fixed, should you require one that hasn't been recalled.

yes david, thats obvious but i already have a suv. i just need a winter setup so i can move away from that big plow that clears the snow in the parking lot? yeah that would be convenient.

I dont have a garage so letting it sit in the same spot until the snow clears isnt a good idea. and what am i suppose to do with the plowers?

i would like to know the best measurements for the 350z it seems tirerack only shows 18inch staggered setups but i see you guys putting on 17inch square setups?

any reason why?

Snow is a common subject here. 17 inch snow tire is less expensive than 18 inch so 17 is a winner. You can also pickup 17 inch OEM wheels for about $99/4 locally. This will keep you safe in snow for a reasonable price.
