2006 M/T Oil Consumption..Should I buy the car even if I dont know it hasit
So I'm planning on buying a Nissan 350z for $16,500 from a private seller. He says it only has 8,000 miles. Its year 2006, silver, base model (i believe).
Is it shady that this guy is selling the car for so cheap?
What things should i look for when inspecting the car when i go to his house?
What is the max reasonable price that you guys might pay for that nissan? Cuz I think 16,500 is too cheap, but the cheaper the better!

Also I was asking about what I should look for (when inspecting the car). Like some specific component under the hood that might have been tampered with?
Clearly I'm not anywhere as near experienced with the 350 as the people of this forum, so I just wanted some rules of thumb.
Thanks
Maybe you could look for misaligned body pieces that may indicate it's been in a crash and any weird shudders while shifting or accelerating which could indicate something wrong with the gearbox/engine

Hmm, I heard of this oil consumption problem, and people addressed it by "simply add more oil."
Is this problem ongoing with all '06 models, or do only some have this fluke? Or is this something i should actually inquire to the seller about?
Thank you for the hint about weird shudders while shifting. I'm planning on bringing my friend (who has owned an '06 350z for about a year) to inspect and take the car for the testdrive. That way he will know for sure if there's anything wrong.

My concern isn''t only the price. I was asking your opinions on whether 16.5 might be a very outrageous and suspicious price.

I have an 06. Here is a list of things to look for:
differences in paint shades from body panel to another
abnormal noises in engine compartment, under load and during idle
does the car drive straight
is the exhaust stock, is it damaged
undercarriage inspection for notches on frame rails, damaged to various parts
condition of cabin, wear on high traffic areas(center console, armrest compartment, seat rails, door rest)
overall interior and engine compartment cleanliness
Now thing during the test drive:
abnormal noises during various road surfaces(bumpy roads)
try to take a windy road to see how the car turns, and check for anything abnormal during hard turns(noises caused by worn/damage bushings)
make sure all features are operable, ac, radio, wipers, etc,etc
also have someone rev the car to see if any vapors come from the exhaust that are not normal(If it burns oil)
even though some are common sense, a friendly reminder is not a bad idea.
And like others have mentioned, vehicle history, service records(for tsb's)
Quick question: The car that i'm going to buy has a VQ35 (DE) engine in it (i saw the sticker), and based on a quick gooogle search, i found out that that particular engine produces 287 HP.
I thought that the 2006 MT 350z produces 306 hp?

There is two versions of the de. 03-05(not including anniversary) 287hp 274tq. 05(anniversary) and 06 rev up 300hp 26?tq. depending on the production date, some 06 models may have the regular de. Get vin number and call dealer, they could tell you.
Ok so I'm hearing more and more about this "Oil consumption" problem, especially with the '06 MT Z's...I hear things like people needed to get "their engines replaced"?!?!
Should I still buy the car? Is this a reoccurring problem?
Advice please.
So sorry to continue to ask questions on a post that I thought answered perfectly.

I heard that if the car was manufactured in Feb '06-May'06 then you might have an oil consumption problem.
The one I'm probably going to buy was manufactured in September '06 (according to the sticker). So does this mean I am probably fine when it comes to OC?

All the 06 manuals have the Rev-up Engine which produces 300 hp, the automatics though come with the slightly less powered 287 hp.
Hey guys, I posted on this forum another time, and I know there are ALOT of articles about the 2006 M/T oil consumption problem but I really just want to gather some info before telling the seller that I'm not interested anymore.
He wants to sell me an '06 M/T Base model 350z with only 7,500 miles for 17,000$.
Only problem is; I've been reading for hours all google searches about an Oil consumption problem with those models.
I read somewhere that if you have a car that was manufactured between February '06 and May '06 then you might have an OC problem.
I looked at the sticker of the car that i want to buy, and it says it was manufactured in September '06. Am I all clear with this problem? Or is there still a high possibility that I will have the problem?
Do all 2006 M/T 350z's have this problem? or only a small amount? Because based what i read online, practically everyone had this problem.

Not all M/T 2006 Z's had this problem. It would have been a giant recall. What you should do is ask to see service records and the carfax. It'll give you some insight as to whether or not he had the long block replaced. At 7,500 miles, I wouldn't buy it anyway. That car's been sitting around. I'd rather get a car that was driven a little more.
