My first 350z with tight budget but have enough for repairs
Could I please get input from enthusiasts on this car since I am planning to buy it? http://rochester.craigslist.org/cto/4009717851.html
Anything that is a definite no when I get there let me know. I am told he will sell it to me for 8,000 so it is relatively low price I think. I am new to this forum, I have read all the tips and other threads but I would like opinion on this. Also the taillights will be swapped back to stock since I do not like these ones. Thank you very much

I typically try to stay away from vehicles with needless modifications. Often they point to a vehicle that has been driven hard and / or improperly for a very long time.
I would do at least 1 of 2 things.
Go to a dealership and drive a good condition 350z so you can compare this one on your test drive.
Take it to a mechanic and get a good compression / leak-down test. I think it's the best way to tell the condition of the motor.
Before I bought my car, I test drove an $8000 deal and it had obviously been rode hard and put away wet. Clutch was slipping and the engine had no spunk.

Yeah, i was thinking the same thing with the modifications but the guy said he never drifted it since he can't afford the repairs of potentially hitting a house or a curb and such. The guy lives 2 hours away from me so I don't know how to go about getting a mechanic to check it on labor day.

I agree...don't rush into this…have a mechanic take a look at it before you buy it…no matter how long it takes. what if the mechanic finds something seriously (IE $2500 repair) wrong.

The ad has been changed when I saw it the owner said a gear grinds. This means either tranny rebuild or replace.
If you don't have much money for repairs then don't buy a modded car. Look for one that is stock. Odds are it's been drifted or raced
With your price tag you will only find one with higher miles.

Yeah, that's the kind of car you want. Guy spends money on a nice stereo instead of a fart can and a wing. Interior is probably well taken care of too.

Save the money and buy a good car from the beginning! Get a carfax certified one owner vehicle! Look for any stickers belonging to any auto repair shops that you don't know of, and go to them and give them the vin number!!!! Maybe you can get some dirt on what work was done to it before you get it.
