Looks like he lowered the price from $11,600 to $11,100 today as well.

Not included in the ad: ton of dog hair and front right side of bumper has a 6" scrape

Thanks for all the info so far. Everyone on this forum is super helpful and I haven't encountered anyone being sarcastic or a smartass, which is fairly common on car forums.

I would pass. Something sounds off.

Also, make sure he has all the records for the transmission and see if it's a CD009 or CD008. It's funny he works so much but can take pictures of his car in nature.

Don't buy unless you have a mechmic check it over. From the sound it could have issues burnt oil even a small amount is no good. I would pass on that aspect alone.

Is he some kind of car flipper? If he regularly changes the oil then he would not be taking it in to the dealer to get the screen cleared....you can clear the nav screen service prompts yourself. I'd say he doesn't regularly change crap and has no idea what he's talking about.....and if he did try it, he probably skipped the torque wrench that most of us "hillbillies" find to be a necessary tool during an oil change.

I gotta ask.....did dealing with this hack cause you to suddenly want flapjacks?

if the transmission is the newer, and it doesn't have any oil leaks... looks like a good deal

Find one with an owner that isn't shady. I would NEVER buy a vehicle and not have it inspected by a mechanic, unless it was obviously brand new from the dealer.

I have been in the situation where I do not have time for another party to have the car inspected and I generally have the same views as he does. Now if you told me you were going to take it to Nissan or Firestone (someone reputable) then there is no way they wouldn't know what they were looking at. My families shade-tree mechanic wouldn't really know what to look for with this car.

I don't ever have anyone inspect my cars. I am competent. If the car has service records, looks and sounds okay to you, go for it. The car has 80K miles on it. Hopefully it isn't that bad.

But I also wouldn't purchase this vehicle either. There are way cheaper ones to be had. I bought my 06' for less than what you are offering him.

There is nothing to question here. Do. Not. Buy.

The seller is hiding something.

sounds to me like he just doesn't want to be haggled with "this and that". The burnt oil your probably seeing is most likely from the notoriously leaky valve covers which happens around 60k. if you have a obd scanner that would be prime. if not... I would make him have it inspected before sale. if he cleared any recent trouble codes less than 50 miles ago it may not pass emissions depending on your state. some of these cars tend to be oil hogs. if theres no loud ticking when the engine is running and it pulls hard, give it a go.

If you are dead set on wanting this car and if he is adament that there is nothing wrong and he is not hiding anything make an agreement in writing for the terms of the sale. You agree to take it to a certified Nissan mechanic and whatever is wrong with the car (minus small stuff) he takes the cost of repairs off your final agreed to purchase price. If he agrees you know the car is going to be fine but if he freaks out or won't agree to it walk away as you now know there are issues he knows about. CYA.

Some guy that wanted to buy my z said he needed a Nissan mechanic to look it over for certification. I'm like I can't get it certified since I'm not a car dealer and it's way too old. Some buyers are CraY and I told him he could take it but he insisted not to.

I had my transmission replaced by nissan under warranty at 27K for a 5th gear grind, clearly not abuse related, so that wouldn't bother me. The seller trying to discourage you from having the car inspected is a little off, I work with a buddy who has a small car lot with nicer cars and customers request inspections all the time, assuming there is a deposit it's not a big deal to have a car checked out when it comes to collecting $10K+ off someone you haven't ever dealt with before.

I agree with what was posted earlier, he may be buying/selling the cars, as the reset procedure takes 5 seconds in the nav and if he doesn't even know that he probably hasn't had the car long enough to figure it out. If that's the case, he may not be hiding anything as much as he just doesn't know what's wrong and doesn't want to find out lol.
