Just how common is this slave issue in the 07-09's?

 

Its a when not an if, but as travlee said there is a fix. I would lean towards a fixable problem and better engine in the 07-09 than the possibility of on 06 oil consumption issue.

 

mine went out six weeks after buying it at about 36k miles, replaced it with oem and it went out in about a year later... wised up got the zspeed setup and never had another problem

Get an 07-08, I didn't really think having the newer/nicer tail lights and headlights, hood, etc would really mean much to me, but when I see other earlier model Z's it makes me appreciate the improvements

 

Ok. Y'all have convinced me on the 07-08 route. I got the Camaro back on the road and I have some time to freshen it up to get max $$$ on selling.

I was talking with my wife and I agree with her that we think we'll take a bit of the Camaro/Z down payment money, be proactive and have the slave replaced BEFORE it becomes an issue. I don't feel like messing with it when it becomes an issue.

Is this the only part I need to replace? Keep in mine, I'm not modding. This car is going to be my DD as I have something else cooking in the garage for fun.

 

replace it with the wilwood master, they have combo on there somewhere. it is best to replace them together

Yep, that's the one.

But according to everything I've read or heard (particularly from Rob at Z Car Garage, "my" Z guy), the other recommendations on the Z-Speed site re: new hydraulic line and new master, are definite "DO ITs". You don't need a Wilwood or Tilton master, according to Rob (he hates Wilwood for reasons I won't list here), just an OEM quality unit since you're not planning to mod or race.

Regarding the overall "HR v. DE experience", I did a comparo a month back or so that describes my HR-equipped Nismo versus my DE-motored '03. There's a couple of segments in the original thread starter post discussing my complaints about the "light and high engagement clutch syndrome".

Will be upgrading to the Z-Speed slave and RJM pedal in the future (when the stock clutch and slave finally bite it.)

In any event, you may wish to drive the car for a while before dealing with the "will fail" slave cylinder if it's not presenting any problems initially.

I bought my Z with the Wilwood master/slave combo already on it along with an Exedy Stage 1 clutch/flywheel combo. Feels great!

 

Yup. You got fkd up wheels.

 

Sure, that makes sense but consider this.... since you have to drop the tranny just to do the CSC, "might as well" do the clutch while in there too. So add $800 (give/take) for a nice JWT combo setup (or take your choice).
