Pricing a 350Z
Hi, im new to the board and Im from New Jersey, im looking to purchace a new automatic(enthusiast) Z, but im not sure what the "out the door" price is on one of these, im not looking for any extras other than automatic and would prefer the color red with a charcol interior, also are there any dealers in New Jersey that I should avoid, also I tried the "search" on this board but there is a problem with it at this time.
Where in NJ are you. I got mine from Somerset Nissan(rt. 22). The salesman(Eddie) was good but the sales manager(Tom) was bad. The service is also "so-so." I haven't really gone in for major work but for the minor stuff so far the service has been okay, they gave me a bs excuse for some things.
If you live in North Jersey, I'd avoid Warnock Nissan in Morristown (Ridgedale Ave), they have a HUGE overhead. I got my Z from Hilltop Nissan in East Hanover (Route 10). My salesman (Ed) really worked his @ss off to get me the deal I was trying to get. Hillside Nissan (Route 22) always seems to have deals. Just last week they had an ad for 2 Automatic Enthusiasts for I believe $26,997.

You can price your Z at www.nissanusa.com. You can also to www.edmunds.com and see how much Z's are selling for in your area. Try to deal with the fleet or internet manager. Stay away from the regular salesmen. DO NOT PAY MSRP! Good Luck!

I bought mine from DCH Freehold Nissan. I wouldn't buy there again, though. They didn't honor the email quote they'd given me, claiming it was a typo. Still, they did give me a good price of about $1000 over invoice on a fully loaded 04 Touring 6sp Coupe (with Navigation), so I can't complain about the sales department THAT much. The quoted price was actually a little under invoice.
But, the reason I say I wouldn't buy there again is because of the finance department. I stupidly bought the extended warranty, and promply came to my senses about a month later. That was back in January. Needless to say, I still haven't been able to cancel it. The various "fincance managers" I've dealt with have either been clueless or obnoxious, and none have sent me the damn form to cancel the exteneded warranty!!! Unfortunately, it's been impossible for me to get over to the dealer, as I live over an hour away. I did just discover an address on Nissan's website that it says to write to if you can't get your dealer to cancel the warranty. Looks like I'll do that, but it makes me wonder if this is a common occurence if Nissan has an address for this type of thing!

I checked out DCH Freehold Nissan. They were all idiots. They would all approach me and try to convince me to take home the Z they had out on the lot but they wouldn't let me test drive it. I was talking to a salesman about the Z and all of a sudden he starts talking about the Titan and Armada. A bunch of weirdo's at Freehold Nissan.

I plan on buying July 2004 so I guess I should go in around mid-May or beginning of June?? My question is when does the "price negotiation" process takes place?? When I place the deposit or when the car arrives and everything gets finalized??
This other salesperson "Jamie" from Route 22 Nissan in Union, NJ has been calling me as well. I asked Jamie when should I come in to put the deposit down and she said something similar (60-120 days to order one) and SHE WOULD CHARGE ME $500 (deposit) OVER STICKER!?!? Frankly, I hopefully don't want to pay anywhere near sticker price...does it work differently with a car in stock and one that needs to be ordered?? Let me know...
Funny thing, I work practically across the street from Hilltop Nissan in East Hanover, NJ...(Verizon Wireless store on Rt 10 East).....peace all

You'll negotiate the price when you give your deposit. Definitely don't go in later than May to order. You may even want to go in now. Some people have been waiting 3+ months for the Zs to come in.
$500 over sticker is insane. I threw a fit cause someone quoted me $290 below sticker. Haha.
As for in stock vs. ordering, I know from two experiences at Hilltop, they will work their @sses off (especially Ed) to move something on the lot. They didn't seem as flexible in terms of ordering, but we didn't go into that too much.
And I live right down the street in Whippany so I pass that Verizon store all the time.
Thanks for the info!!
Whenever picking up food on Rt 10 like Boston Market or so I turn my head looking at the Z's they have right up front (hoping to not hit anyone going into that U-Turn after the Hilltop Nissan dealership)...I did see a blue one there a couple weeks ago, its not there anymore. I looked through www.nissanusa.com dealer inventory feature and saw it was exactly what I wanted minus the Automatic 5 speed and the frost leather interior...
Has anyone dealt with Ramsey Nissan?? Speaking with them on the phone, they seem like *****!! He was trying to get me to buy in January "at sticker price" rather than my planned July date when he would sell the car "marked up over sticker price"...that turned me off right there...
Peace all...

Sometimes you can get a good deal...
I went to the Nissan dealership with a set number that I would not go over and a set model that I would not deviate from. The only leverage I gave the dealership was the color. I wanted to drive the car home but I knew I would never find the color I wanted.
I was looking for an 04 DB Track model. I wasnt going to pay more then 31K out the door. I ended up with an 04 Silverstone Track model that I drove home that night. It took about 2 hours of hashing and haggling with the salesman before he finally went and got the sales manager. What he didnt know was that the Sales Manager was an old High School acointance. 1 hour later I was driving home in my new Z
It is duable, sometimes it helps to know the right people though.

Well I went to Hilltop Nissan in East Hanover, NJ...spoke with the sales rep, Ed Richardson. So here's what happened...
Told him I wanted to order a Daytona Blue 2004 Nissan 350Z touring 6-speed with certain additional options such as the side curtain airbags, floor mats, trunk mats, aluminum kick plate, aero package, and NO to the cargo conveinence package.
He totalled everything up to be $35,500. Then the funny thing was that he told me the Roadster Convertibles are typically selling for $7000 above sticker and $5000 above sticker for the regular hatchback...bringing the total to $40,500 approximately. I got some sphiel (sp?) that he could POSSIBLY talk to his boss about splitting the markup price in half.
After a painless 5 mins of haggling I alluded (sp?) to the fact that MSRP is $35,500 with all the above listed options. Your invoice is $32,165. I nice happy place in the middle where I'm making out OK and so is the sales rep is what www.edmunds.com calls the TMV or "true market value" based on what others are paying for the vehicle in the region...$33,429
Talked to his boss for a couple mins, he came back, and I was prepared to haggle some more but no...shook hands and said we have a deal. The car is scheduled for delivery in the beginning of July. I'm saving for my down payment ($12,000 - 15,000) right now and hopefully everything goes as planned...so I put down a $1,000 deposit for the order.
Ed was a nice guy...he also let me take an AUTOMATIC (Ordered the 6-speed but have not learned how to drive it yet) 2004 Liquid Aluminum silver Z out on RT10 for a test drive BY MYSELF. (I was surprised as Honda on RT22 takes you on some short corny backroad where you can't even get the feel of the car)............................................I GOT HIGH DRIVING THE Z!! Tapped the gas lightly and before I knew it I was at 80ish...brakes were a little soft, tapped it and I almost lunged forward- go figure? Probably because I'm used to my 1998 Toyota Corolla having to press deeper in to stop...............I TOLD MYSELF, "I CANT BELIEVE THIS IS GOING TO BE MY CAR SOON!!" LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE TEST DRIVE UP AND DOWN RT 10 (better if not as much traffic).................peace all
