Default Taking Buffer to Black 350Z

I've heard different opinions on this. Can anyone clear up this question:

To remove light scratches and swirls on a Z superblack, should you polish by hand or take a buffer to it?

I've heard some detailers claim you shouldn't take a buffer to a black car.

Thanks,

eljuan

You shouldn't take a standard rotary buffer to your car unless you really know how to use one. That where that ugly swirled look you see on "polished" cars comes from.

If you going to do it yourself, get a Porter-Cable 7336 or 7424 Random Orbital Buffer/Polisher/Sander. You can use something like 3M Swirl Mark Remover followed up by a non-abrasive polish.

Here are some starting points for articles on Polishing with the PC:

Autopia.org is an excellent source for Detailing info.

Yeah use a porter cable but the pad supplied with the pc sucks. Buy some aftermarket pads, I think they differentiate them based on the color of the pad. The pc coupled with a good pad and some decent polish/compound should do the trick. I need to order some pads soon.

I just got a compressor and want to buy a buffer. Any ideas?

Thanks

Compressor? I usually associate compressors with air powered grinders. You definitely don't want one of them near your car. Can't say that I've seen a air-powered ROB either.

Just used a Porter Cable 7336 with Meguiars 8006 pads with great results on my Super Black 350Z.

Went over the car with Megs #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish (DACP). Followed up with Clearkote Vanilla Moose with a Lake Country Finishing Pad (grey).

Applied Poorboys EX-P sealant by hand and buffed off with Porter Cable and micro fiber bonnet.

Great results...

Here are some pics of swirl removal via high speed buffing........wouldn't recommend the inexperienced to use it though. Orbital buffers are much safer if you've never used power tools on the paint.

Notice the excessive swirl marks are only on the left side........the right side's swirls have been buffed out.

We decided to do the customer a favor and buff out the scratches on the hood before applying the clearbra.

Believe it or not, paint protection film covers up swirls, so with the film over the hood, it'll be the only area on the hood w/o swirls if we didn't buff out the rest

WOW! 5 star swirl removal!

I'd be attempting something like that, but I definitely don't have the ***** to put the buffer to the Z

I'll be taking the buffer to my SB Z in a few hours, I'll post up pics within a day or two. If I can find my camera.

Yep I agree w/ 2003z, that's exactly what I use. Intensive polish, final polish and then S100 Carnuba and if you want to keep the shine in between washes try Clear Pearl. If you want to use a lower price solution try 3m

I second that. My Superblack looks AWESOME after the Menzerna treatment, and the Porter Cable 7424 is a breeze to use.

Here are some pictures of Yobris car after I finished detailing it one day. I used Blue Coral Product X with my Porter Cable 7424.

I hope you don't mind Brian!

That's MGL's car in the background BTW. Looks awesome with those wheels.
