Angry Help! freakin Mr Clean waterspots/film!

Used the Mr Clean autodry thing for awhile then last 2 times left freakin waterspots over every square inch of the car. Have clayed it 3 times on every horizontal surface and 5 times in the really bad spots and still isn't completely gone.. Haven't driven my freakin car since before the holidays. Was just about to do my first zaino application but until these spots are gone am just locking my car in the garage..

SOoooo if anyone has any good tricks for the love of god speak up. I called the Zaino hotline and was told that it's probably etched the paint but I don't belive it. I think it's just this mr clean crap.. Sal recomended vinegar but for the test patch I did on my rear window this will take a freakin while and I'm a lil worried about using it on my paint. As far as using any compounds on my finish I'd really like to think of that as a last resort...

Help me... Please... I'm beggin ya here...

in mr. cleans defense i have been using the autodry system since it 1st came out with no problems to date. although it says the filter is good for 10 washes i replace it about every 5 or 6. i havent had a drying towel of any type to my paint in quite some time.......just a suggestion, mabey your not getting the soap rinsed off well enough? mabey these areas werent quite rubbed by a wash mitt with the polymer soap so the water wont be "spot free" in that area......i could be wrong, best of luck!

The reviews by members who tried the Mr. Clean car wash when it first came out were not very positive. After using it for a while, most reported that it appeared to dull the shine, and they ultimately abandoned it.

If a clay bar won't get the water spots, you can try the "acid bath".

Here's the instructions from the Autopia Guide to Detailing. You can find out more about it from http://autopia.org

... first, wash your car with your normal car shampoo, rinse, and then use the distilled vinegar. Just wipe it on with a sponge, and rub it in. Do a section at a time. Let it set 30 to 60 seconds and then rinse. When you're done, wash the car again with shampoo and then rinse.

It goes on to say that if you leave the water spots on for a week or more, then paint will be etched. The vinegar will get rid of the mineral spots but leave etched dimples in the paint. You'll need to polish it out with an abrasive polish.

Good luck

I used this system once, and bagged it halfway threw washing my car. Had to rewash actually. It left an odd film on my car which did not like to be polished after ( I buff my cars every single time I wash them )

Not to mention the soft water mode, comes out way to slow and is a pain IMO.

Just use a leaf blower to dry your car.

Talking My baby is safe...

Vinegar did the trick, and I didn't notice etching I belive it's just some weird ju ju from mr clean.... boy that sounded wrong...

Anyway christ Zaino is freakin amazing ( and smells pretty good too ) I had always used Meguire's gold class and hell there's no contest. Took my awhile to bite the bullet and spend 80 bucks on wax but well worth it.

And as for the mr clean well I spent a crapload of time using the mist bit and I'm quite attentive when washing my car and still came out this way so, might work for some but for me I'm going back to the old fashioned way. Thought the leaf blower trick is apealing, just curious though happen to have a toro 110mph blower. Bad idea to use same one for the driveway on my car? ( yeah this sounds like a real dumb question but I'm a cheap sonovabitch )

Thanks for the help!

Westby,

Glad to hear that you've got rid of the spots and come to the bright side (Zaino).

I have always used the same leaf blower on my cars as I use on the lawn. Can't hurt it - it's only air.

You'll find that after you get a coating of Zaino on it, the water will run off easily and there won't be a lot to blow dry. Also, learn to use the "sheeting" trick when rinsing. Take the nozzle off our hose and run water on the top to form a sheet of water covering it. Pull the hose away and watch it run off in one big "drop". Repeat the same on the hood, rear hatch and both sides.

You should be left with a few drops of water here and there. Blow them away and blow the water out of the door opening, around the hatch opening, around the hood opening and the gas filler door, the front grille, ... well, you get the idea...
