I've been told that since I live in Florida and the sun is so strong, that I should use polish and not wax on my car. Is there any merit to this? Anyone else ever heard of this? Any inf appreciated.

I assume that you mean polymer products like Zaino vs. old style "wax" that is based on oils and carnauba, right?

Products like Zaino hold up better and are more durable than carnauba waxes. Where Zaino might last you 6 months, a wax might only last 60 days. Polymers are also easier to apply and buff out than waxes (in general).

I'd guess the reason why you were told that is because of the heat and humidity we get in the south. There was a discussion here some time back when someone in AZ complained about his carnauba based wax "melting" off his car. Maybe that's what they were referring to.

 

Carnuba wax is more prone to i guess "melt" it become very pliable in the sun in fact one of the ways to remove left over carnuba is let it sit in the sun then give it a wipe. I would say stick with carnuba if your car is a darker color because it won't leave that silvery coat on top like a polymer will. But if you liek the look of a carnuba (the "wet" look also gives depth) then go with a sealent one good combo is Klasse AIO let it sit for like 12hrs then go over top with a pur carnuba like p21s. the klasse will last about 6 months and the carnuba in your situation about 30 days so just reapply. hope this helps
