What does a California Bar do? How do you use it?
I looked at the description and picture on the box and it makes it seem like it's used to remove impurities that have collected on your paint. I just got my car yesterday, so do I need to use it? I'm planning on a wax job today.
It's probably a clay bar. If you have paint overspray, live near a lot of factories(produce a type of fallout), or near railroad tracks you may have some impurities on your paint that can be removed by a clay bar. If none of the above apply to you and your paint is good then there is no reason to clay.

2. Mix a small amount of car wash with water in a spray bottle.
3. Keep the area you are claybaring wet and work in small areas.
4. Turn the claybar frequently
5. Re-wash car with either dawn or a good car soap.
6. Wax your heart out
The most important thing to do before you begin is buy ZAINO!
BE VERY CAREFUL WITH CLAY BAR it must have a lubrication on the car before you touch it to your paint. It is only to get deep grit or caked on bird crap etc. What color is your Z? what year? I use ZAINO it is the best but doesnt show as good on light color's but shines like no other..... last for 6 months 3 layers will do.You have to order online.
