Is there such a thing as washing your car too much??? I wash my car with Meguiars Gold Class soap religiously once a week and wax every 4-6 weeks. Someone had mentioned to me that I could be doing damage to the clear coat/paint. Is that true? I don't $hit about this...

 

The 350Z loves soap and water. Bathe it as often as you like.

 

Well soap does wash off the wax, and the car is much better off with wax on it!

 

What would be the alternative? Not wash it and have the dirt and acid rain tear up the paint?

 

As long as you are using proper techniques and proper wash mitts and good car wash (good car wash will never strip any wax provided you have a quality wax or polish) you could wash it every day if you like. However, if you are not a good detailer, car owners can become their paint's own worst enemy....

 

Going to have to agree here. While washing the car will eventually strip the wax off, I believe it is much better for your paint to wash it often. As long as you keep on top of the waxing, and use good quality materials and products you can wash it as much as you want. I personally wash mine about twice a week and don't see any problem with that.

Wash you car with 2 buckets. 1 with car wash soap and water, another 1 with just regular water. Everytime after you soap your car, dunk the mitt in the othe bucket with clear water so that it'll take off/rinse the dirt and other stuff off it, instead of it going to the same bucket that you use with soap and water. By doing this, you'll have less chance of having small scratches or swirl marks.

 

Good point. Members will often ask “How do I get swirl marks out of the paint?” I always want to answer “Why to you put them there in the first place?”

 

what if you bought it used and you didnt put them there to begin with?

 

Then you have to either get them out yourself or pay someone do to it.

To do it yourself, you'll need a Porter-Cable 7224 or 7336 Random Orbital Buffer/Sander (better known as a PC). Get a Velcro backing plate and some foam polishing pads from www.topoftheline.com and some 3M Swirl Mark Remover (SMR) from the local Auto supply store.

Wash the car then claybar it to remove any surface contaminants. Then go to it with the PC and SMR. Finish the process with a good quality polymer paint protectant like Zaino. Then stand back and enjoy the beauty of the Z

 

Swirl marks are not completely avoidable, you will get them no matter how careful you are with your paint, the trick is to minimize them as much as possible and when you get them, use proper products and procedure to polish them out.

It is bad you should limit your washings to half that and the other half wash my car....I'm about 30 mins away from you...
