There's no one-size-fits-all car care kit out there. There are a lot of good products that fill a bunch of different needs and individual tastes. You need to do some research to decide what and how much you want to do. You can get a $5 bucket, some rags and some dish detergent or you can spend $100 on lambs wools mits, auto shampoo and microfiber towels. It just depends on what you want your car to look like in 1, 5, or 10 years; how much time and money you want to spend; and how obsessive you want to be.
As Zand02max pointed out, Autopia.org is a good place to start. The Detailing Forum here has a lot of good info and helpful members.
