Lightbulb protection package

Couple questions:

1. Does anyone know what the "protection package" from the dealer is? This is from a company called ECP - Entire Car Protection. Is it a wax?

Allright, please save the speach about I shouldnt have paid for it etc. Thank you.

2. Would it hurt anything to wax over it in a few months? I am thinking about Blackfire when it comes time, but I dont know about using a clay bar ( I have heard horror stories).

I am not real detail gung-ho, but I do like a shine and protection. I just dont want to spend $100 to do it and 10 hours. side note - any project I start I end up screwing up anyway.

Thanks all!

I had all my windows and car parts etched with a number....is that the same thing? Keeps people from doing anything with the car parts after they steal it. I assume that's if they take it some place that actually cares about that stuff....which I'm sure most chop shops don't. In the end I think I'm still car less. Maybe I could post something on that stolen car forum and see what they think.

From what I saw it looks like a "Multi-level" marketing business...
like Amway...No Joke..
Go to their website:
http://www.ecpinc.net/
If after viewing that site, if you dont feel you have been a sucker to buy something that was marketed to you as the "end all", but is actually just "average", then you need help.

PLEASE, cut your losses and ZAINO that baby..it will protect you better. I just spent $160 for a bunch of Zaino stuff that will last me a long time and protect better than that big $$$ scam package you got sold on.

NUFF SAID!
Agreed. I am going to use either Blackfire or Zaino in April. I think this ECP crap prides itself on the insurance factor rather than the quality of the product they use. I just want to make sure I can put either one on top of this ECP "protection" package.

Man, I sure know what you mean. I have been there and done that too many times.

The BEST part is when they call you later. They get all mad that you didn't give them a chance to beat the price. I always say something like

"I DID give you a chance to do better! I came in to your showroom prepaired to buy a car and TOLD you what kind of deal I was looking for. You said no way and I believed you.

I enjoy the stunned reactions.

In a similar story......

That just happened with my wifes car. This weekend we bought a new PT Cruiser for her to commute in. The first dealer wanted $1000 over invoice (yeah right) because they would have <BEG TINY VIOLIN> to search for the car and have it brought from another dealer. </BEG TINY VIOLIN> I am sort of in a hurry (because the $2500 cash back ends 2/28) so, against my better judgement, I even offered him $500 over invoice. He still said no!! Whew, I regretted it as soon as I offered it anyway, but I am in a hurry.

So, I went 20 minutes down the road and the next salesman gave it to us for only $200 over invoice and he has to get it from out of state. He found exactly what we wanted in stock at another dealership.

It feels pretty good to get $2500 cash back on a car that only costs about $20K to start with.

Its a rip off dude....
A few years ago dealerships would ask you "AFTER" you bought the car if you wanted the paint and cloth protectant...
They would present scary pics and charts of everything from Acid rain to Nuclear fallout damage.
Almost every car buying resdourse from Consumer Reports magazine to websites all said "NO, its a rip off and just a way for dealers to pad their profits".
Because so many people said NO, dealerships NOW just put it on and ask for the outrageous price, betting most people wont question it.
<<SNIP>>What a bunch og loser con artists.

Default Hard to blame them

It's hard to blame the salesmen in some way. All this crap probably works more often than it fails and it makes them money. They are playing the odds.

I mean geez, if people will REALLY pay you over $1000 to wax their car before delivery it would be hard to turn that money down.

To me a GOOD salesman is the one who recognizes when a customer is on to these tactics and switches to "straight forward mode" instead of "slight of hand mode.

With my last car purchase...the guy was like I can see you have done a lot of homework, what are you looking to pay?" I told him Invoice he countered with $200 over? and I said Done. It was that simple BECAUSE he switched to being straight forward as soon as he saw my Manilla folder. The previous dealership I tried to buy it from tried all the standard tricks even though I came in carrying a folder full of printouts AND called them on each stunt as they tried it. It was almost surreal, like they thought they were starting to convince me or something. I wasn't sure if they were just overly persistant or completely clueless to how it was going.

I agree with all on dealers. I did not want to go from dealer to dealer so started using a car broker. Will never buy a car any other way than thru a broker.

Okay, I appreciate all you guys enthusiasm, but we are off topic.

The package is unfortunately already purchased and on the car, I just need to know if I can use any products on top of it? Again, thanks for the input so far and any in the future!

They are the experts not us.

Default Zaino on top.

Here is how I see it. If you wash the car with dish soap (as Zaino suggests) one of two things will happen. It will either remove the dealer applied protection or it won't.

If the dealer stuff comes off (as I suspect it will) you are no different than anyone else. You just got a clean car to put Zaino on.

If, by some miracle, the dealer stuff does not come off, then you can _probbaly_ just put Zaino on top of it. If the dealer coating didn't come off with soap it is probably a solid foundation for another coating.

If you are really worried about compatability you could test it on a small area first but I think you will be fine.
