Default Paint Repair

Ok when you open the passenger side door if you look down on the rocker panel I have a scrape that is about 2 feet long and about 1/2 inch wide. It is all the way down to the plastic. I don't know how it got there but I would like to try to repair it with touch up paint. Can anyone tell me the process for painting it myself in my garage?

Welcome to the forum. A photo would be helpful. Considering the extent of the damage, I recommend professional painting.

1/2 an inch wide = go to a shop and get your door repainted..... touchup will look terrible....

+2 on professional work. If for any reason, it isn't currently possible, then wait and get it done it when you can. Keep in mind that even when damage is enough to be repaired by spot-painting (i.e. just the damaged area, not the whole door), there is no way of spot-clearcoating as otherwise, the fresh clearcoat would start pealing away at the edges pretty soon.

My front bumper was extensively "rubbed-against" in our office parking lot when car was just 3 days old. The painter scraped, primered, and painted the damaged area (approx. 5"x6" rectangle) only, and then color-sanded the edges so it blended perfectly with the rest of the paint, but the entire bumper was then clear-coated three times to do the job right.

My wifes Miata had two bad scraps on the front bumper. I had local guy who specializes in bumper repair, chips etc. fix it and you can't even tell. $85. He sanded, primiered, & sprayed it. Looks great.
