make sure you go back and forth in the same direction and also use plenty of qd spray as lubricant.(qd means quick detail spray in case you didnt know).also dont apply to much pressure, also use a very light pass.

Do it in small sections and when the car is cold. ALso use a lot of lube and clean it off after you do that section, otherwise it sticks and its pretty hard to take it off w/ soap. Do the areas behind teh wheels and on the front grill and front bumper for the biggest difference. You'll take off whole chunks of dirt you never saw.

The clay should not be introducing scratches to your finish so the direction really shouldn't matter. Use a lot of spray lubricant on the clay and on the surface and let the clay do the work. If your fingers are going thru the clay then you are pressing too hard Don't forget to refold the clay periodically to get a fresh side facing the paint.

Is the Quick Detail spray the recommended lubricant? I thought clay bar has its own lubricant? Can a clay bar be purchased at an auto store like Pep Boys?

I got the Mothers kit at Autozone, came with the bar, detailer and a small bottle of carnuba wax. $16 I think.

it definately makes a world of difference. You can actually hear the bar removing the contaminants from your paint surface. If you drop the bar, it's as good as gone...toss it and drop some more cash on a new one

Claybar does wonders!! I jus bought the Mothers Claybar wit detail spray. Do small sections and spray often wit the detailer while using the claybar. Use up or down or side to side pass.

I organised a Meguiars night for one of car clubs I'm in NZ for the second time this year & yes they recommend using the Quik Detailer in conjunction with the Clay Bar. I don't know about in the USA, but in NZ you generally buy a pack that consists of Clay Bar and Quik Detailer. Hope that helps.

This may or maynot help, but an interesting video none the less. Watch an expert groom a car. Paul Dalton commands in the order of 5 thousand pounds (yes, English pounds or sometimes more) to groom a car.

Anyway check this out.

Haha, but that only works with pure Carnuba wax, not with synthetic polymer wax.

But yeah, it's pretty cool!!
