The safest / most gentle carpet & upholstery cleaning stuff is probably Woolite...

Agree.

And the method depends how dirty the interior is.

For light soil: Woolite and water in a bucket. Wipe interior with white towel. Rinse with clear water.

For heavy soil: Use a steam cleaner with Woolite. Rinse with clear water.

The rinse is particularly important. The soap residue must be removed.

i got owned by not removing the soap., It left a white outline where it dried. Is it possible to take the seat covers off and wash them and then let them air dry? I have some dirt up in there

Folex is a great carpet and upholstry cleaner. Just spray it on and let it desolve the stain, literally happens before your very eyes. Do a google search, this stuff is da bomb!

still woolite... spot check it on a small area to see if it causes any discoloration. after it dries, check it, and if it looks okay to you, then use it to clean the oil.

+1...I've been using that stuff for years. The can even has it's own built in brush mounted to the spray nozzle.
