Default Engine Detailing Questions

I've read a couple of really good posts here that have had some good info on engine detailing. I'm getting to a point where I'm noticing that the engine could use a bit of a cleaning. The advice that I've read so far has been pretty general concerning the cleaning process. Has anyone who's detailed their engine so far have any advice on the subject specific to the 350Z?

Also, I've always wondered about the possibility of using compressed air to surface clean engine components (followed up by detailing with a proper wipe-on solution). I'm noticing most of the dirt appears to be fine dust and would easily be removed with air. Aside from sending the particles all over the fenders requiring the car to be washed, is there any negative effects that anyone knows about when using compressed air?

It shouldn't put forced into parts or up close onto badges. A fair alternative to compressed air from an air compressor is to use a keyboard duster compressed air. I do that at car show all the time.

Ahhh... DetailingDude, I was hoping to get your input on this question. Thanks.

So it sounds like you're saying that it should be okay to use compressed air. I wasn't planning on using the usual 90 p.s.i. typically used for cleaning mills and lathes, I was thinking a lot less like 30-45. That's a bit more than the keyboard cleaner and definately a lot more volume. I'll give this a try before I was my car this week.
