Angry Paintball damage

Wednesday night some ahole shot the rear of my hatch with a paintball gun.

Where it hit on the METAL part of the hatch it cleaned up fine.

Where the paintbball "juice" dripped or ran down my super-black PLASTIC bumper, it damaged the paint. It almost looks like it somewhat disolved it.

Question: Has anyone heard of this happening before ?

Uhm, paintball fluid is pretty much gelatin.. I can't see it dissolving your paint.. it's a little greasy/waxy.. might just have to use something like Dawn to clean it off

Paintballs are biodegradable + water-based. It should definitely not ruin your paint. Try doing a full wash+clay+wax to your car. I'm guessing it should come off during the wash part.

If it sat long it could be a b!tch to get off. We had some paintballs shot on the wall here at work, thinking oh no biggie its mostly water. Few days later we were scraping it off walls with razor blades and harsh cleaning chemicals, it was like egg whites when dry. OP-I suggest you try to clay bar this out. Ive heard WD-40 works for egg whites and paint from road work. Spray it generously, let it sit 5 min and rinse it/scrub it off. It shouldnt damage your paint. Good luck!!

I was shooting a sign one night with my friend next to his honda element. The next day we realized it had sprayed off the sign onto the plastic pieces on top of the car where you mount things. And it was sitting in the sun long enough to discolor the dark gray plastic to white.. some of it came off, and if it all came off it took +3 months to go away.

I have already tried rubbing compound (fine).....no luck.

I am thinking someone actually used a paintball with some type of solvent in it.

Jeesh, I try to live my life without making any enemies and I still get hit.

Okay, I can tell you for sure that paint ball pellets will wreck paint. The last few times I've played paint ball, & been stupid enough to forget to take my nail polish off, when I've been hit on the hands, it has completely dissolved the nail polish in less than an hour & made it all soft and mushy. Being car paint and nail polish are basically the same thing, it's definitely possible.

What is it with people paint balling peoples cars in the USA anyway. Weird.

What is odd is that the paintball did not hurt the paint that was on the metal part of the vehicle.....it only hurt the paint on the plastic bumper.

When I was a kid I owned a ford taurus that got "sprayed" with paintballs. The same thing happened to my paint. The paint on the metal was unaffected but the plastic bumper had huge discolorations. I hate to say it but I think you're out of luck. If you read the back of those paintball containers they claim they can discolor stuff. Why there is a difference between the plastic and metal is beyond me.

Sorry to hear man.

It could be something to do with the primer. An etch primer is normally used on plastics, but not generally on metal. Different chemical makeup, therefore a different reaction.
