Default Clay and Spray Detailer

I have become a huge fan of a the clay bar, but I find it's a pain in the *** to keep buying boxes of Clay Magic evertime I want to do it. Will any spray detailer work as a lube for claying? And what and where is the biggest clay bar I can buy?

Meguiar's Quik Detailer works with clay. The bars are really intsy-wintsy though.

Yeah, I got tricked by the advertising on the box, too.

"comes with TWO clay bars + storage box"

The storage box was a nice touch though, beats the ziplock bag.

Clay Bar

Cut this bad boy up into about 4-6 pieces and you will be set for a while. The Meguiars and Mothers are little nuggets, but you can use any of the QD as a lube.

How big is that 200g clay bar compared to the ones in the clay magic box set.

$24 sounds expensive for a block of clay, maybe the picture doesnt do the size of the bar justice though

The mothers is about 80g and the Meguairs is not listed, but I think they are about 40-50g each. I would say each 40-50g bar would be enough for two vehicles. So you figure the Mothers and Meguiars is good for approximately 4 complete cars, or $5.00 per car. The Magic Clay will be good for about 8 cars, or $2.55 per car after you factor in the discount DetailedImage is running with 15% off. This is assuming you already have a quick detailer and toss out the free sample wax like I do.

I've been detailing cars as a side job for over 17 years now. It amazes me how the manufacturers are scamming the public into thinking that you need to use a product such as "quick detailer" as a lubricant. I've been using Meguiars and Griots products exclusively for many years now, and they both make a GREAT product. Do yourself a favor, and save some of your hard earned money while you're at it. I wash my "Z" with Meguiars car wash gel, it works GREAT as a lubricant for your clay bar.

Griots sells one of the biggest clay bars I've seen.

I have used both methods, claying with heavy soap after the intial wash and using the QD. Both work, but I prefer using the QD and I can go straight to polishing versus feeling the need to rinse the entire car again after using the soap and clay method. However, it does work and is definately an option. Griots is good stuff, I loved their Vinyl and Rubber dressing, but the cost of the products and expensive shipping made me look for other alternatives. They are starting to offer some instore sales at select locations, but none close to me as of yet.

Oh, yeah, there bar is 8 oz. and I am too dumb to convernt ounces to grams, but they look fairly similiar.

edit: I liked 8 oz. = 225 grams

That's what I use. I use the clay over and over also.

I get the detailing mist free, so I can't really complain...
