Default Zaino Z-7..Interesting fact

As I live in an apartment, without facilities to wash my car, I must use the carwash for my auto hygiene. I have been pre-mixing Z-7 in a one gallon plastic water jug, like for distilled or drinking water bought at the local grocery store. Well, one day I came home and found water all over the floor of my laundry "room", and thought the washer was leaking, as I had just done a load. Took me a couple of minutes but determined the leak was from the pre-mixed jug sitting on the floor. Didn't think much of it, just figured I had damaged the jug transporting it back and forth....until tonight. A new batch, in a new jug, about a week old and guess what. Yup...jug is now half empty. Being a little wiser at least it was in a bucket. So I guess now I know why Z-7 cleans so well. It eats through plastic! Guess from now on I'll have to mix it up and use it within a day or so.

Motor oil also eats through milk jugs pretty quickly...

the paint on a car, and plastic have very different properties. because it eats through one, definitly doenst make it harmful to another.

odd anyway.

Correct me if I wrong (I'm not BTW) but doesn't Z-7 COME in a PLASTIC bottle? I think something else must be going on here.

So does motor oil. Plastics are not all created equally.

Z-7 is perfectly pH balanced at 7.0 I don't see how this could eat through ANY plastic.

Very true. There are probably more different types of plastic than there are things to put in them (ok that's a vast over-generalization, but you get the idea... :-)

OK, let's think about this (to expand Buub's correct statement above):

* Zaino is a polymer (plastic)
* Polymers use solvents to make them liquid. When the solvent evaporates, the polymer solidifies.
* Z7 is supposed to enhance Zaino, therefore, Z7 must contain some of the Zaino polymer.
* Z7 is liquid, therefore Z7 must contain some of the solvents that liquify the Zaino polymer.
* Different families of polymers use different solvents. The solvent for one polymer may not dissolve another family of polymers.

Logically I arrive at the conclusion that the plastic jug must be of the same polymer family as the Zaino polymer, thus the Zaino solvent is dissolving the plastic jug. The Z7 container must be in a different polymer family, thus it is not dissolved by the Zaino solvent.

One good way of determining the polymer family of an item is to look for the recycle code. A plastic milk jug (this is the same thing, right?) has a recycle code of 2 with the letters HDPE. I think that stands for High Density PolyEthylene. The Z7 container has a recycle code of 3 with the letter V. I don't know, maybe Vinyl?

I hope I am not divulging any trade secrets here when I come to the conclusion that the Zaino polymer is an HDPE. I would be willing to bet that HDPE and V polymers have a different class of solvent.

None of the above surprises, disturbs or concerns me at all. I have always known that Zaino is a polymer.

if Z7 had a solvent in it that let it dissolve the same polymer that the zaino wax is made of... it would also dissolve the wax on the car. which would be pretty useless.

Washing with it, and rinsing is a lot different than storing it in a closed container for a week.

I keep a spray bottle of a Z-7/water mix in my car at all times. 6 months and still no leaks.

Ah, but I bet you aren't using a milk jug
