Everytime I clean my Z I get frustrated when I see these things all over my front bumper. I swear...small rocks and bugs have PEPPERED my front bumper over the last 6 months of owning the car.

Will buying some matching touch up paint look like garbage or would it be worth a try?

PPW....damn color shows everything!

 

Touch up is very tough on PPW.

 

What color shows under the PPW? My car is Redline and all of the chips stand out as white/prime under the Redline. I would think it would not be as bad for a PPW if it was also white/prime under the PPW, at least until you get close up.

The touch up paint looks terrible in my case, but still slightly better than without it. Can't wait until I can get a re-paint and a clear bra! $$$

 

i gave up on my front bumper a while back. im not going to get it repainted till its not my DD anymore. there is no point cuz our cars are so low its inevitable

 

It is black under the chips....i'm guessing all the way through the paint and primer...

 

LOL I swear they do this on purpose just to mess with us..my car's black and the bumper chips show white.... leave it to nissan to make chips on PPW show up as black.

 

i have a silver car. I thought it was black underneath until i spent a few hours with a clay bar. turns out it was dirt. Liquid glass claims that with enough layers it will make your vehicle chip resistant.

I have not been using it long enough to validate this claim. So far iI have put four coats on the bumper and have not had any new chips. its only been 3k miles though

 

a. Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol.
b. Apply a coat of white Rust-oleum appliance touch-up paint #203000.
c. Allow to dry.
d. Apply a coat of Nissan touch-up paint #999PP-TQQX1TC.
e. Allow to dry.
f. Wax as usual.

I have tried several methods to touch-up Pikes Peak White. The key is the base coat. You may have to experiment with several techniques.

 

mine is beyond repair... but since it is still my DD i'll just have it resprayed when i decide to put a lip on it. I will definitely look into this liquid glass stuff if it works! keep us updated

 

Where did you get the liquid glass stuff?

 

Liquid Glass is just an acrylic based sealant. It will protect your car from rocks no better than any other wax/sealant. Either go with a clear bra from a reputable manufacturer, get a repaint, or live with the chips.

 

I've got two on my roof, WTF, that are already rusting... Nissan paint bloooooows. The primer on SMB is Grey.

 

Their claim is that if you build up enough layers that it is more rock chip resistant.

I really have not been using it long to validate or discredit this claim. So far I have applied four layers and the front still looks pretty good. Its been about 7 weeks now.

I bought it at Checker. Its also available online if you google it.

 

Something is definitely wrong with the Nissan Z paint.

My '05 DB bumper looks like it has hundreds of tiny chips. I took out the touch up paint today, but gave up because I'd have to apply it with a mop to cover all the dings.

There's no way this could be considered normal wear and tear!!

Has anyone asked their dealer about repairing this under warranty?

 

Front bumper chips has been a popular subject for 5 years. Do I know of anyone who has got a free bumper paint job? No.

 

It's just very frustrating . . . I take really good care of the car and it looks fantastic . . . and then I look at the bumper and see this:

I hope Nissan is doing something better in their later models because this just sux.

 

Do something better? It's really NOT preventable unless you get some sort of clear bra/protection over it. I just got mines repainted, from my friend, and he did 3-4 layers of base, 3-4 layers of pearl, 3-4 layers of clear, clear was VERY VERY thick. I still got a few rock chips within a few days.

 

Whatever you don't..do NOT buy a Nissan touch-up paint pen. I've tried a couple and they simply do not work.

I suggest getting the bumper re-painted and put a nice clear-bra on it. It will look mint from there on out, assuming proper cautions are taken.

PS: Your bumper looks 1000x better than mine, looks like I've been through Vietnam blasts and back.
