Question Bumper Glaze?

I was inspecting my car today and noticed (had it 1 week) and noticed what appears to be, well, I don't know what it is but it made the bumper very dull. I washed, waxed, re-washed with dawn but nothing seemed to get it off. I finally tried polishing compound figuring it can't get much worse and that took it off. Pictures below. Anybody have a clue what this is/was?

Hehe. The large white circle is just the polishing compound on the ground used as a reflection to show the "glaze" on the bumper. Since it's over pretty much the entire bumper and not just circles, doubt it's bologna.
