Default "Ming" detailing a joke or great?

Looking at having my car detailed by the local Ming dealer? Does anyone do this anymore? Is it a joke. What is the best detail process if I want to spend minimal time detailing? Thanks.

Can't believe Ming still exists. Haven't heard that name since the early eighties and actually considered having it done to my RX-7 (new at the time). What ever you do don't do it. I don't think the new water based paints used today could handle the process.

Can anyone tell me what exactly this is? I've never heard of it.

If I can remember that far back it was the first use of Teflon as a protectant. The process involved the softening of the paint with high speed buffing and then applying the Teflon so that it would blend with the paint. Then polish it like you would any car. Supposedly it made the paint hard as nails. Claimed you never had to wax again.

I talked to detailers and body shops about this process and they said if you ever needed body/paint repairs it was impossible to blend/feather in paint and you had to repaint the entire section of the car. It was also tuff to remove any paint without major sanding.

The thought that softening the paint and not being able to do minor repairs turned me off.

Pay someone to do it for you.

If you want to do it yourself, minimal time, hit the car wash.

If you want to do it yourself but want a really nice looking car long-term, willing to expend some effort but want the most efficient way, go Zaino.

You can get as deep into Zaino as you want, just minimal Z5 or the whole kit, but any way you do it the polish goes on and off easier and lasts longer than anything I know.

Of course, then there is the Zaino addiction factor......
